loose shock acutator

Im getting the "service ride control" light on my 92 ZR-1 and I noticed the front right shock acutator thingy is loose. The drivers side it tight, so I was trying to figure out if this should be loose or tight? If it should be tight could that set off the light?

Then, how do I tighten it. I looked at it, then tried to read the shop manual, then looked at it again and I cant figure it out.

Any help?

There should be a metal "C" clip that secures the actuator on to the shock.
The actuator meshes with a plastic gear on top of the shock shaft. Maybe you lost the
clip?

ok I pulled the clip off, and removed the black acutator. The nut that holds the lower cup on was loose. I tightened it and put it back together.

I did not get a chance to start it or drive it, but could this be what set off the light?

Yes...it could have been...however if you still have the light...follow the Service Manual and figure out which codes you have. It will pinpoint the problem. I believe the SRC can be read by grounding Pin K to Pin A...on the ALDL Connector...Key On.

Make sure you torque it down to 17 ft lbs To much causes the gear to ride to high. To little the gear to ride low and it will not function.

Also, the grounding pins are A to C for the SRC. A to K is for the air bag.

What is the trick to torquing it? I cant get the right compination of swivels and extentions on it.

What did you use?

The nut is right on top of the shaft. It should only take a socket and
torque wrench to tighten it. Swivels?

I had this problem with my 90. I tightened the nut several times and it kept comming loose...finally I put a small drop of locktight on it and that solved the problem.

What did you use?

Don't use a 1/2" torque wrench. Use a 3/8" and you should be able to get that in there with the inner fender still mounted. If not, undo the bolts for the center fender panel and remove it.
