Finally finished cleaning out the worlds biggest under plenum mouse house.
Two drain holes under the starter? ![]() When I drowned the starter in 1993 the dealer replaced it under warranty (more or less). While they were in there and due to the cause of the drowned starter being a plugged drain, he said there was a service bulletin that would allow them to drill another, larger drain hole next to the original hole. "So, you want to drill a hole in the middle of my engine block?" "Yes" "Has your mech ever done this before?" "No, but we have a template" "Alrighty then" You can see where he started the drill twice. When we blew out the hole from the bottom with compressed air it (and mouse detritus) came out the larger hole.=D> |

I had heard of this back in the 90s but have never seen it.

Not sure what is happening with the smaller hole now. I thought about
plugging it but see no harm in leaving it open. |

I've often wondered why one of our famously anal retentive ZR-1 brothers has not come up with a method of connecting a source of suction, (shop vac?), to the drain tube somehow so that you could wash your engine without drowning the starter.

I don't ever seeing that happen. Don't forget the coil base, coil pack and the DIS module are all in the same work space along with the starter. Often the drain tube opening is plugged with crap so trying to suck from the bottom won't get everything out. In short washing the motor is not a recommended procedure
