ok Guys , I'm considering using the old exhaust placing dynomax mufflers 17228 , and an x pipe . mufflers $200.00, tips ? $200.00 , x pipe $100.00, labor $100.00 and if ceramic coated ?? $200.00-$300.00 ? or just order the OBX exhaust $550.00 .. So questions are 2 1/2 vs 2 3/4 pipe . hP loss, and if I do use the 17228 mufflers what length exhaust tips? I was wanting Z06 tips but they are expensive ( very ) if they can be found ( summit has a good listing to choise from ) . Ideas ? Sound of teh OBX system ? Thanks

Last year I did the OBX. I like the sound, and the wife doesn't complain about it. I also did OBX headers that I had ceramic coated by Swain. They told me there are two diferent types of ceramic coating. One will keep them looking good forever, the coating I did does not look as pretty but is much more functunal at keeping the heat inside the header.
I also bought locking header bolts. My exhaust guy could not get the locking clips on. The drivers side header was rubbing on the steering shaft, we ended up jacking and shiming the engine. I think I would have been happier dimpeling the header, but that should be done before it gets coated. If you're doing this your self and the car is down for the season, I'd recommend dry fitting for clearance first.-Steve |

You've gotta search for Z tips. You can also look for Camaro ZL-1 tips which are the same. Just saw a set of those for $100 on damaged exhaust.

Sound wise, I like the Flowmaster system. Just wish they were stainless. I painted the mufflers black and they look great. They only have resonance at around 1200 RPM. Just a wee bit louder than stock at crusing speeds.
