I am trying to think of ways to justify things I want. I have begun initial planning for some winter work for Marc Haibeck to do on my 20k mile '95. It could be a few small things that need to get done, maybe $500, up to a full boat Haibeck 500 package into 5 figures, or something in between (which was the original plan and remains the most rationale). I know what I want of course, but I am looking for a rationale or justification that goes beyond just sporting a woody.
Thinking of return on investment made me wonder what values have been seen on H500 cars that have sold, if any. I did not notice any for sale while I was looking for my 95, so I don't know if any have been sold lately. I know that a pristine 20k mile '94 sold around $32k with a lot of Marc's work including top end porting, headers, Corsa etc., making about 480 hp. I think it was a great value for the buyer and probably market correct. I also know that it is very difficult to recover performance upgrade investments from buyers, depending of course on initial purchase investment. So if anyone knows of H500 cars that have sold and what they went for, that would be very helpful to me. If you don't want it public please feel free to PM me. --Bob

you'll never make back what you spend on mods. they lower the value, not raise it

That is my belief also. There is a good argument for leaving a car perfectly stock and go for a Bloomington Gold, and my 95 would have been a great candidate for that. But after modifying my 93 over 13 years and enjoying it, I just didn't want to do the Bloomington thing. I like the mods and some buyers out there do also, but you are right, rarely will you see a real return oninvetment, other than in the grins department. --Bob

I've recently decided to keep my 90 stock and look for a modded one to buy when the time comes. or just buy a porsche, haven't decided yet

I dont think the smart investor is putting a ZR-1 into their investment portfolio. At the very best one might hope for a slower rate of depreciation on their Z compared to other vehicles. Does it really matter what you can sell the car for at some future date if you have many miles of smiles & memories? I took a 95 3k mile car and did a Haibeck 500 pkg as well as many other mods and couldn't be happier (maybe a 415 would make me happier

If you are going to spend the cash go for the 385 or 402 with a 175 dry NOS the combination will get well you over 700HP. The only drawback is the repair bills and breaking down 500 miles from home.
