Unhappy Bosch circlip/spring

I was just cleaning my car ready for BG. Working in the wheel well area and caught the little metal circlip that goes around the top of the shock tower.

It pinged off and I cant see it anywhere, I think it may have gone somewhere down by the steering tube. How critical is this? What does the bloody thing even do? I have about zero chance of finding one around here before I leave next thursday.

I think you are referring to the clip that secures the actuator for the Selective Ride Control, on to the top of the shock absorber. If you can't find it, I'd probably suggest removing the actuator entirely, temporarily at least, to avoid having it bounce off and possibly be damaged or melted on the exhaust, for example. That is, unless you can rig up some zip ties or something to hold it in place and out of harm's way.

Well unhook it and tie it back like Andrew stated. Either ignore the light or put a small piece of electrical tape over it. Order it and it will get to you in some date in the future.

Any of your local firends able to help you out quicker. Ryan etc??? He owns like three cars hes bound to have a few spare clips to loan?

Good suggestion but Ryans over on the West Coast - that did give me an idea though. There are a few C4s in our local club, one of those guys may be willing to loan me one for a while untll i can get a replacement.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Dave,

Is it something you could order and ship to Jim's?

Or something you need to fix before departure?

Take safety wire, loop it around and use those spinning wire pliers, I do not know the correct name to secure it. That will last until you get another clip.

Possibly, but I need to do something to hold it on the way down.

That's a good stand by if I can't borrow one. Thanks!
