Default Seat Belt/Retractor recall N910059 & 058 (ex 91059 - 058)

It finally happened to my '90 ZR-1 #2282, the ratchet in the P/S seat belt locked up, can the D/S be far behind?
GM addressed this problem with Product Safety Recall N910059 & 058 (ex 91059 - 058) in October of '91. My car never had it done (that's what happens when a car sits for almost 20 years with no one driving it... don't worry, as the latest owner, I'm making up for that). Of course my dealer after much hunting, said the recall is still in their system, but there's nothing they can do, the parts are no longer available from GM etc. But they did agree that GM owes me... (good luck on that...)
From their parts department and cross referencing from my old parts book, I've got the latest PNs, but of course they aren't available anymore and no dealer in the US has any in stock.
  • Any suggestions?
  • Does anyone have some used ones, better yet NOS? Red 733 (I could use black if I have to, NCRS be damned...) Any "home fixes" to existing belts/retractors that work?
  • Do any 84 - 96 belts/retractors work? There's different PNs in my old parts book? But after a "visual" on several cars, they all look alike.
  • Any ideas on "tweaking" GM? After all they owe me and it is a SAFETY item, this could be fun... I hope I don't have to wait until my passenger goes thru the windshield, which would open up another problem we're all familiar with!
As search of the "Registry" site didn't provide much info.

Thanks,
Doug Marshall

While I don't have extra belts or that color you need, I have 96 belts and receivers in my 90. they work fine

mine lock up from time to time....if you just hit the cinch button a few times it should work

Kurt has you hooked up
In the meantime just take belt off, then back on & all is OK for a while

Kurt,
Do you have the right and left? I guess the Flame Red is somewhat brighter, but it would be livable. Currently just the right (P/S) is FUBAR, but I want to replace both sides. I'll try to get my dealer to call you, they're usually OK, but this may be too hard or too tough for them not to mention getting GM to pay. After all he did say GM owes me this.... I'll call you to discuss before I go to my dealer.
In the meantime so the right seat is usable, I removed the seat to get at the retractor and released the ratchet device so I could pull the belt out and put a "clamp" on it so it wouldn't disappear back into the retractor. No amount of screwing around with the cinch button would make it work.
I had the same problem years ago when my '89 L98 was a couple years old, they replaced both belt/retractors under warranty so I'm familiar with the problem... of course they screwed it up by bolting the driver's seat back in on top of the seat belt, where do they hire these morons?
Thanks,
Doug

SO what is the actual failure? under certain instances I figured the belts cinch but don't release the cinch.. my 89 and 90 both act the same way, if I remove and re buckle they are fine again, is this the failure?
