Default Not another transmission question............

I want to replace the fluid in the transmission and might go with Redline MTL.I spoke with Bill B and I was told this might make the trans a little bit smother. What is the majority using?

Castrol TWS 10-60 would appear to be the weapon of choice. Down side is it is pricey and only available (mid Atlantic area folks anyway) from BMW dealerships.

Cliff, nice link!

Those guys sell it for almost half the price that the local BMW stores sell it for in my neck of the woods.

Tom
Tom....just some more information for ya

"There is two different colored bottles the Castrol TWS 10W-60 comes in. THEY ARE THE EXACT SAME PRODUCT, JUST DIFFERENT COLORED BOTTLE. The newer bottle, Gold Colored, has updated information on the back which now includes M6 and Z4 M's. Other than that it is the exact same oil… Sometimes the cases purchased from BMW are the new Gold color and sometimes it's the traditional Grey… But not to worry it is the same good 'ol stuff…"

It's odd to me that Bill would endorse RedLine for use in the transmission.

When I acquired my 94 ZR-1, it had about 60,000 miles. While doing all the maintenance, I switched to Red Line in the trans. The original GM fill looked new when drained. In less than 5,000 miles (don't remember the exact numbers) the trans seized, and I mean locked up such that it could not be disengaged by shifting or clutch release. It had to be dragged onto a wrecker.

While talking to Bill about a rebuild, he mentioned that he knew of a couple of others that had the same experience with a change to Red Line & was wondering if there was a connection.

Enough for me to never use it again. I put Castrol in the new transmission & never looked back.

I used the Castrol oil from the BMW dealership in my '93 LT1's ZF6 I used to have & never had a problem. I'm planning to use it in my '90 Z's ZF6 also.

DONT DO REDLINE MTL in the Trans..

It will foam out on a high speed run, and be all over the car not in the tranny.
