Default AC conversion

Since my AC system is empty of R12, I'm going to convert to R134a.

I've got a new compressor on order, but I need the rest of the required parts.

Is there a list, or kit, somewhere that has everything else I'll need?

Thanks, Paul

You probably don't need a compressor, unless that s a known problem or the cause of your leak...most likely culprits are Schrader valve or bad hose. Any parts store has a good conversion kit (oil and connections). Expect about a 15% loss in cooling, but it still works great in Phoenix …. for about 20 years, so.....

That’s a matter of much debate. Years ago we simply got the R134 oriface tube and fresh PAG oil. Evacuated, then just charged it with R134. Worked fine, never had an is issue. Today they want you to change everything. At minimum I would change out the receiver dryer simply because of age. I’m sure you will hear other opinions.

I read some articles in some past HOB issues detailing the change.

Looks like I have some work ahead of me.

Pulling the plenum anyway due to a fuel leak.

Did the 93-95 ZR-1 go to R134a when new?

If so, was there a different condenser?

Thanks

Yes not sure on 93 but 94-95 were R134a.. different pieces in the system and the condenser was a parallel flow not the tube and fin used with R12

ok thanks. Since I need a new condenser, I'll get one for a 94-95 plus all the other stuff I need.

You will need everything to my knowledge as the fitting are different and I think the oil cooler may have to change to mount correctly to the new condenser

1994 was the first year for all US automobiles to be mandated to have R-134a
