Re: Interest in Main Bearing studs
Most of you should have these by now. I realized I should provide some guidance for torque values. Using either oil or ARP ultra torque on the threads and washers, you should tighten to:
M10: 52 ft-lbs (in two steps) M12: 80 ft-lbs (in three steps) At those levels, you'll stretch the studs to approximately 75% of the yield strength. You'll want to put several (3-5) torque cycles on the fasteners to burnish the threads and stabilize the friction value. Note: the fine threads on the nut end of the studs are not the same pitch as the OEM fasteners. You should not use the same torque-angle specification as the stock bolts. That will result in under torqued studs. If you want to use torque-angle methods, contact me offline and I can provide the angles. |

Re: Interest in Main Bearing studs
Tighten and release. For most builders, this happens anyway as you pre-assemble, hone, measure clearances, and re-assemble. The point is simply to burnish the threads so you get an accurate and consistent stretch using the torque method.

Re: Interest in Main Bearing studs
Tighten them several times...not torque them....which makes sense. Thank you

Re: Interest in Main Bearing studs
These are available once again-- I recently had another batch made.
17-4ph steel for these latest ones. Same price. $550/set. 2-bolt motors only for now....

Re: Interest in Main Bearing studs
Exchange rate helped, so it all got a bit cheaper. So I just upgraded the material. No real operational benefit.
