Default Transmission fill plug stuck

Is there another way to fill the transmission? The plug is jammed, 17mm Allen is stripped and the plug is falling apart as I try to get after it with vise grips.

Anyone has to draw the transfusion up with bolts before we did... Sticker would not slide in...

I don't know of another way to drain the oil from the transmission other then the drain plug. But if you can get a new pipewrench with sharp teeth on the plug you may yet get it out.

I would get the car up on jacks and try a bit of concentrated heat using acetylene torch in center of plug...then vice grips. Do NOT melt plug!!

Removing the Transmission Plugs

Give Bill Boudreau a call

You are setting him up

Here is my thinking....no matter what it takes best to do it now so you can end up with a transmission with the correct fill/drain plugs in tact.
It may even require Transmission removal. But then what.....I am sure Bill has run into this before.

If fluid is drained, I am sure you can set the transmission (transmission out) on its side and drill the existing damaged plug from the bottom vertically controlling the shavings.

Then without damaging existing female threads, chase them and clean things up. With Drain Plug out one could also keep vacuum on the drilling to make sure everything stays out of the trans....then without moving the trans, pour oil into the drain hole (now on the trans side) and wash out any possible aluminum shavings resulting from the drilling/chasing.

I am not sure what kind of access there is but I have had good luck with a sharp chisel and a hammer. Of course if the trans is out you have all kinds of room.

Hey guys thanks for the input.

Update - I did drain before removing the fill... Never again. My first attempt to removed involved tapping the allen key out of the socked and using a wrench placed against the plug. It stripped.

Then went after it with the vise grips, and they just ate up the plug. Added heat, no dice and they tried to punch it out. Nothing worked.

I went ahead and added oil through the plug next to the skip-shift eliminator. It was a pain because the hose just doesn't go in the hole, theres a shift rod there...

But the transmission is coming back out, theres a leak on the slave cylinder. I'll try to get after that plug once it is on the deck.

try tapping on it hard with a rod and hammer to jar it loose.

soak it in penetrating lube, give it a whack and hopefully it will come loose with a bit of persuasion

good luck!
