Default 6l80e or 6L90e for our ZR-1's?

Pete might be the best one to answer this question but I wanted to toss this one out there and see what folks know or can offer.

I know there have been more than a couple 4L60/80 conversions done on our LT5 cars but I wanted to learn a bit more about the pros and cons of it all.

I have a 2007 escalade with the 6L80e in it and love the way it shifts.
Yes I know it's an electronic transmission that communicates with the ECM to get feedback data on items like engine speed, rpm, etc.

I also know that unlike the 4L80 transmissions its a clutch to clutch style trans. Ie no bands in it.

There are a couple questions in my mind here with adding this transmission to our C4.

1) has anyone ever done a 6L80/90 series?

2) if yes what did you use for a stand alone transmission controller?
IE http://zerogravityperformance.com/tcm-2600/

3) How well does it shift w/ the standalone controller?

4) My 415 is putting out just under 600hp at the wheels and 500tq. Who makes a set of upgrades that you know will work at these levels?
IE RPM transmissions, CircleD?

5) what torque converter, tail housing (reuse existing driveshaft, and yoke with C-beam mount do I need?)

6) any clearance issues with the 6L80/90E in our cars?

7) Has anyone done a paddle shift conversion to their c4? Open to swapping steering wheels if needed. Ideas?

8) excluding the paddle shift, what would be the parts list including shifter, console insert p, etc that I would need?

9) approximate cost?

quite a few 480LEs have been done but I haven't heard of anyone doing the 680 or 690LE. the early tranny controllers didn't have the more complex shifting software and the "rap" on the 680 is that it's junk in comparison to the 480

not sure how much of that is true, it's more having the right programming as both boxes should be plenty strong for 600 rwhp/ 500 rwtrq

pete I believe would be the cheapest source for the 480LE conversion.

I think it work great. I converted my Z06 TT car to a RPM 465LE (Lvl 5) and it's held up to 600 at the tire and rated for 800 at the tire.

it helped the car put down the power MUCH better and although not as much fun to drive, I'm not breaking any drivetrain parts anymore

worthy swap. the TT ZR-1 went that direction and at that HP level you can give up some "HP consumption" for the advantages in launching the car the auto brings. up to 100 mph, I think the auto is way better.

good luck on your project and keep us posted!!

I haven't heard on any one doing a 6L80-90E transmission's either. And with close to 600 RWHP I'd stick with the proven 4L80E. PATC http://www.transmissioncenter.net/4l80e.htm make's a great transmission and lead's the field in the 4L80E transmission. Not for the weak hearted though , reliability carrie's with a hefty number $$$.

Hey frank. Good to hear from you. What did your 441 end up putting down?

I'm not sure who you are. The 441 put down 586 RWHP.

Ha, I know who he is. Rode in that car at the Anniversary Gathering. It was fresh off the trailer from Corey's and nothing was even broken in yet. I know I had a permagrin from that ride. Very impressive.

How's everything Paul.

John

Hey John. Glad you enjoyed it. We are 50+ HP and 30ft torque over where we were at whe You last rode in it. It's a fun toy now. Of course I am drooling over the twin turbo cars that are running around or the bigger 441 cube cars that the FBI gang are putting out these days.

If you go with an RPM performance tranny, they do NOT recommend TCI controller modules...
