Chain rattle qeustions

I know the there is a new housing to fix the rattle, but what did GM do for Cars that this plagued? same thing (housing)?

I have not searched on my car but I don't hear any rattle at start up so that begs the question, would i here it?

I just started my Z after sitting for a while (since nov) I was not in the car reached in with my hand (clutch switch is bypassed) so my head outside the cabin, I did not here the chain rattle. is it possible my 65K car has no rattle?

I still need to locate the Pass chain tensioner housing..

sure it's possible. there's times my 90 doesn't rattle.

Jeff you would hear it upon startup. It lasts about 3-5 secs. Long enough for the oil to be pumped back up in the tensioner area. All I can tell you is the more miles you put on the engine the noiser it will get. Some motors however get noiser sooner for some reason.

can you tell by just looking if maybe you have the upgrade allready ? my 90 has almost 170 ,000 just started her after she sat for 3 months and she didnt rattle .i can t remember ever hearing either of my cars do it now that i think about it

Would a pre-lube setup prevent this issue? I'm referring to the systems where you have the engine running and then close a valve thus trapping oil under pressure in a cylinder. Then when you are about to start the engine next time, you open the valve thus releasing pressurized oil into the engine. Once running, you close the valve, thus again storing pressurized oil.
Obviously quite bulky, but am wondering if this would help?

This may not be related but when I bought my '92 back in '99 it had cam chain rattle on start up. After the second oil change of Mobil 1 the rattle has never happened.

i suppose it would, but that sounds like a lot of work to fix something that isn't really an issue. besides that, where would you put it

You would see the aluminum housing the new tensioner fits into. The ZFDOC may remember Brad. Hes seen your car a few times.
