Re: change color to competition yellow?

Ok here is an update. I found a Yellow 91 but I think looking at this car has pushed me to paint mine. The car is the right color and does not have crazy miles but on the surface it has issues that will add to its 30k asking price and may have more once seen in person. The car has 31k miles and a NCRS top flight judging award but leather on the seats is subpar to mine and the windshield is delaminating my is crystal clear, stack that on top of it's a 91 so it will not have the black belt line which I think sets the car off. If I could get the car for 23k which i think is more than a fair price it might be worth vs painting mine but I doubt the owner is going to be excited about cutting 7k off his price. I also have another question about colors, does anyone have a picture of a Competition Yellow against a corvette Yellow car which this one is.

I do not see any 1990-1995 ZR-1 with exterior Yellow or Corvette Yellow......just exterior Competition Yellow

The 1990 exterior color chart (ZR-1 Registry) does not show any Competition Yellow but the chart (Color Quantities by year) suggests 23 ZR-1 exterors were Competition Yellow in 1990 and 42 exteriors were Competition Yellow in 1991.

In what year did it place in the NCRS? If the owners asking price is 31K and you say it looks like it has issues than I don't think an offer of 23K is bad...

From what your saying you have not seen this car yet in person, correct? I did run into a guy at a car show that owned a 91 in yellow.....Car was not the greatest and the tint of the paint made it look like a sunflower yellow...

I agree a 90 with the Black moulding around would set off the paint a little better.....As you know it's a great time to buy and if the owner had any sense he would really consider the offer your thinking of...

I think the only yellow offered for C4's (or at least the ZR-1's) was Competition Yellow.

For me (and I know this is a personal, subjective thing), the Competition Yellow wasn't bright enough. I chose a C5 Millennium Yellow.

It wasn't an easy decision, but considering the prices of ZR-1's and other things, I figured I should go ahead and paint it the way I wanted it. I plan to keep the car a long time and when I sell it, I wont expect a lot of money for it. Mine has 70k miles.

I feel the same way about my 91....Picked it up in Nov of 14 for below 19K...Blk/blk super clean car....When I'm done I'll be another 11K in performance mods.....That's what I wanted.....Didn't want to keep it stock..

When I go to sell which won't be anytime soon, someone will get a helluva car for a good price...

Russ, the '91 and '92 Corvettes did in fact have a different shade of yellow. Known just as "Yellow", its paint code was 35 versus 53 for Competition Yellow. Chevrolet pulled Competition Yellow early during the 1990 model year because it was photosensitive in the sun. The color would tend to get darker, as i recall reading, after sitting in the sun.

The '91 and '92 yellow was more pale, similar to an Easter yellow. All was corrected in time for 1993 production.

Regardless, I would love to own a 1990. I don't even mind the '91/'92 yellow on a nicely kept car.

I do like red, but it is nice to see ZR-1's every once in a while that aren't that color.

I might have a tough time changing a lower mile Z to a different color however. In the end, it's your car.

the only time I wish I had a different color car is at carlise.
"Which is our car?"
It's the red one over there.......ummm look for the custom plate
