Come on down this Sunday, Aug 9th. Darrin, David and I will be replacing the crank shaft rear seal and clutch on my 1993 ZR-1. We start at 0900 (9:00am). Everyone is invited.

I am in Westminster, Maryland. Any and all assistance and supervision will be appreciated.

 Pizza and beer!

I will eMail directions to anyone that needs them. (Approx 1.5 hour drive from Fairfax, VA)

Following the repair, there will be a group test drive on some of my favorite country roads.

Upcoming events include a rear spring replacement for Darrin, a transmission, clutch, and exhaust swap for the 1990, and a differential rebuild for the 1994.

I'm gonna put that on my things-to-do list and I promise to bring along my wise & mature "hmmmm" commentary as I stare at what you guys are doing...

At least we can discuss what I'm going to need to do to get the Ruby ready for NCRS judging...I signed up for the Mason/Dixon Oct. 25th meeting.

Looking forward to seeing you guys :)

ZRGator, Glad to hear that you will be stopping by. I am expecting a good group of "supervisors".

Wow Capt, there will be plenty of supervision for the Capt and Lt. I guess we better really try to do this job right!

It doesn't matter if you do it right or wrong, as long as you look good doing it.

Jim, what's up with Darrins rear spring?

It is cracked/delaminated. We noticed it when we were changing the clutch a month or so ago. I got a spring from Mark Haibeck. We will let you know when we change it if you would like.

The cracked/splintered part of Darrin's rear leaf spring was pretty well hidden until we removed the exhaust system to get to the clutch. Since you have been having ride height difference problems, I thought of your car when we saw what the conditions of Darrin's is. I wonder if you have a similar problem with your rear spring and it causes a droop in one side.

It might be worth checking out.

Where does Marc H. get his glass springs from, you guys know? Vette Brakes maybe? Always found there stuff to be great, either Corvette or Camaro F-Glass springs.

I believe the spring he had was a take off from Dwight's car.

It was a great Get Together. Many thanks to Darrin, David, Phil, Rich, Glenn, and Don for helping me get this job done in a timely fashion.

Special thanks to Phil for his expertise. You taught us a lot my friend.

Flywheel is out, crankshaft seal housing is removed:

Yea, we were wearing sweaters because it was only about 98 degrees in the garage yesterday. :)

Hey Rich,

I am glad you made it up to help out.

And Darrin says he would have found that bolt on his own.

Looks like to me you're missing the rear drip tube, did you already take that out? http://www.whiteracingproducts.com/images/10122192

If this is missing, you can bet that the oil is leaking from your PCV baffle and dripping through that hole.

Kurt,

The drip tube was removed with the Seal housing. Thanks for checking it out.

While it was removed we did a clean out of the valley drain.

Even with the drip tube in place, I could still have a PCV problem as Pete pointed out.

Sorry that you missed it, Michael. Is everything ready for your lift install? Do you want me to put a message out about it?

Well in THEORY the lift will be delivered on Thursday...I have a BobCat standing by to offload the 1720 lb package and at this point it is a go. I figure at 10 am on Saturday things should be getting in gear. At this point I am assuming all is a go... and REALLY appreciate the help and of course anyone who wants to stop by and just shoot the breeze

Sorry for the delay, Jim. But I guess you noticed I didn't make it...hope all went well. The day before your event, a friend of mine called to say he needed me to go to NY and finalize a purchase of a car. This guy has been tire-kicking for so long that I was stunned that he finally was going to go buy one! Well, we went and he did. A triple black 1970 Monte Carlo with a 400 ci engine. It was a very nice car and I was there to verify some numbers and give an opinion. Jeez, did you ever try to lay across the front end of a Monte to read the numbers off the block? That is a long front end on that car.
Well, anyways, I'll catch you on the next one or sometime soon....
