While repairing the horn contacts on my 1990, I noticed what appears to be some side play whith the column. Possibly from a previous owner pulling on the wheel toward the 8:00 position. Any one else experience the problem or aware of how to make a repair?

Thanks, John

I also have a 1990 with steering wheel play in the left lower quadrant (I believe it is in the tilt mechanism). I was told there is an article in the August Car and Driver magazine about how to cure this in GM tilt columns. Hope this helps.

Very common GM problem, not just in the vettes. There are three torx head screws that come loose and need to be tightened back up. They can be reached without taking out the turn signal switch but it is tight.

It looks quite involved. Maybe I will fix it next winter,

Enjoy

My car was previously owned by a large older gentleman who used the steering wheel to pull himself out of the car. It's loose enough that you can pull the wheel down about an inch. The Chevrolet dealership said it'd be $300 in labor but I would not need any parts.
