Hi guys,
Sorry if I'm asking a dumb question (I made a search and I found nothing in other threads) but here it is: I came across a ZF 6-speed transmission off of a '91 L98 Vette, is it compatible with my '90 Z? I heard the housings are different but, in case of failure of my present gearbox, could I interchange the housings?
I could get this extra gearbox at a very good price so I'm thinking about keeping it as a replacement part for the future.
Thanks a lot.
Pete

the input shaft and the collar that protrude form the front of the trans are different but interchangeable in the trans

So I could make a useful trans for the Z taking some parts of it, right?

1990-1991 should have same internal parts.
Post the trans numbers on the side tag of both transmissions the one in your Z and the L98 trans.
Also the color of tags.

I'll collect that information on the tags as soon as possible and I'll post it here.
Thanks a lot Jeff and Pete.

Hi Pete.
Your '91 L98 transmission is the same as the ZR-1 except for the input shaft.
But you nearly neeed to completely dissasemble the transmission to change the input shaft for a ZR-1 one, that is longer.
Next time we met, I will explain you....
I think I know where it comes that '91 trans.....
Ramon.

Ram?n, no worries about the trans because we sold it long ago.
Yes, you are right about the origin of the ZF gearbox
