I have located goodyears for the rear but have been unsuccessful locating any for the front. Anyone have any leads for 275/40/17?

Where did you find the rears? (I could use some -- fronts still good ;))

Some years ago I saw a Road n Track (?) article of a test done on a dry and a wet skid pad. Those tires were tested and compared with 4-5 other brands, and those "D3s" were pretty outstanding, especially on the wet portion of the test.
The BF Goodrich tires I had on my base 95 car at the time were among those tested, and for grip on dry the dry skid pad, they were the best of those tested - pulling right at "1G", IIRC. But, the "D3s" pulled .95 on the dry pad, and .91 or .92 on the wet...truly amazing tires! (again IIRC.)
But, when I got the Z, I was looking for a tire that would perform better on the drag strip. And, the D3s that were on it when I bought it were old and hard and had to go. And, besides, after the porting and Marc Haibeck's laying of the hands, those D3s were really out of their element.
The Nitto G2s on the front do much better than the 555 series do (mid 40s in the rain is about IT - UNLESS you want to have an impromptu (heart in your throat) "experience"!) And, the 555Rs do stick pretty well after a preliminary burnout. But, although I seldom drive in the rain, unless I get caught or have no choice, I miss the sure-footedness of those D3 in the wet!

Priority tire had the rears. But no more. I am going to try m/t street comp.

Thanks Young1
And, I agree with you Paul, these are awesome tires in the rain. We often drive for several days in a row, and we are always getting caught in the rain. Let's just say that I've never had to slow down when it is raining :)

I was driving downhill on a wet twisty blacktop (@ Starved Rock, to be precise. When I came around a blind corner, I met an idiot in a pickup truck cutting the corner by straddling the center line! I already had about as much pressure on the tires I dared to, but suddenly I had to crank in a whole lot more to avoid being side-swiped!
The D3's didn't even whimper. They just gripped and steered me deeper into that wet corner than any other tire I've ridden on would have taken. Very impressive! (A few of the FBI gang were right behind me - Dominic for one and some others too that day.)

Not new but you can get slightly used on on EBay as they ?Goodyear? no longer are making them. They have done this in the past hopefully they will start making them again
