I was thinking of adding a battery disconnect switch, rather then just constantly removing and replacing the negative battery wire. Any good recommendations for one?

I like this one from Amazon and had it for about 7 years with no issues (made in the USA too) I agree it sucks to keep having to remove the terminal.

Why are you always connecting and disconnecting the battery? I can understand for longer term storage, but anything less why not a battery tender? I have been using a tender for 25 years. Batteries typically last me 5-6 years as expected

I will likely get a tender too. Just new to the car, and not too sure how well everything electrical is operating yet.

Only 5-6 years?? Shhhhheeee***ttt! The one in Ami's 69 vert is 14 and counting: cranks like new! (Battery Tender:thumbsup:).

Erik: A quick disconnect switch, safety not withstanding, is practical if the car is in storage where AC power is not available, especially if the storage area is in sub-freezing temperatures (colder temps slows chemical "sulfate" buildup particularly when not being regularly charged).

Winter will be interesting. My garage is large (30x40) and at least in theory heated (oil furnace and ducting everywhere - Oil tank removed due to environmental laws), and it does have electricity. My concern was with a 30 year old car that I was not that familiar with yet, deciding to self immolate due to old/damaged wiring I wasn't aware of. I had been looking at battery tenders, and had just forgotten to order one, what with everything else going on. Thanks for the reminder.

Yeah a 69 with like 4 wires compared the bundles of wires in a 1990. How old are the batteries in the 90 and 91? I know a couple of those batteries of mine were killed by an alternator..

With the disconnected battery you don't have to worry about
the electrical system in the car being "hot".
So, ya gotta reset your radio presets in the Spring?

For extra measure I drain all of the gas each time I park, to avoid any chance of fire.
I also deflate the tires to prevent an explosion in the event the garage becomes too warm.
Next I plan on removing the glass so no one gets cut should it break.
Am I being overly cautious?
Don't respond til tomorrow.
I shut off my electricity in the house every day to preclude any chance of a bad wire causing a problem.

Amateurs!

I take my whole car apart whenever I park in my garage. Can't have any part of the car interact with any other part, too dangerous, and besides it's known in California to cause cancer.

I've done this so often I'm down to 15 minutes for disassembly and assembly.

I did not know that that stuff is flammable!!!
Thank you for pointing it out!!!

I have also gotten into the habit of removing the plugs, lest a latent / residual spark could somehow ignite something causing a fire. You know what Smokey the Bear says about sparks.............

I have also removed all heavy metal CD's to prevent radioactivity burns.

I wonder how much flammable alcohol is in the washer fluid.................

I feel so much safer.
