View Full Version : Odd Squeak (seemingly) temperature sensitive...?

My OCD is always finely tuned and ready at a moments notice.

My latest obsession is that I notice a squeak coming from the passenger side dash area of my 91 at lower speeds, over roads that have a more "wash board" feel. The funny thing is that the noise happens when the car is "colder" especially when first started and the air from the vents is cool.

When the engine heats and I can push 75 degree air through the system, the squeak seems to go away quickly. BTW, the squeak is a high pitched, "back and forth" three times quick and sounds more plastic in nature. Once the car is warm (or on hot days) the squeak is not noticable.

Anyone ever heard of such a thing? Is there some HVAC components that I need to check? Vents, blend doors, electrical wires? Of course I'm planning a disassemble of the dash passenger side as COVID means I have extra time to be crazy.

Thanks!

I hate squeaks like that! I assume you took everything out of the glove box and center console? Try driving with glove box door open? Change position of the passenger seat?
It sounds to me like a loose screw, somewhere. Last noise I had like that was a loose screw for the top, I think the front passenger one.

Check the hood Bump stop.. That was the same/similar noise on mine.. not always, but sounded like rubbing plastic in the dash. my son suggested to check the hood stop.. that was it

Or, simply press your right foot down more.
Problem solved!

Look at the 96 ( I know, not 96 ZR-1) FSM on squeeks and rattles fixes are the most up to date for the time for a C4.

Thanks this is what I'll do however the radio and gas pedal mash seem way more fun.

Question.... What kind of access does removing the IP/compartment (glove compartment) give you? I've never had my out so I'm curious if I'm able to inspect ducts, wires and other components.

I'm trying to avoid pulling the whole dash (potentially) apart if I can get through the top IP compartment and/or remove the lower kick panel as I did the dreaded EDM removal a few years ago.

Thanks for the suggestion- this may have done the trick!

I put some grease (I had everything wiped very clean) on the bump stop and plate and drove to work this morning. I didn't hear anything!

Thanks for the suggestions- this was way easier than ripping apart my dash.

I would suggest adjusting it slightly too
