I don’t have the harness breakout tool but I need to adjust the new throttle position sensor on my car. I really don’t want to hack into my wiring loom.
Any one have a tip for doing it without the harness breakout tool? Went to order one from mid America but it’s out of stock.
My car is a 1991.
Thanks,
Reed
A decent setting can be obtained by setting it midway between the limits, which places the TP Sensor horizontally level.

It’s possible to rig a set up to get the setting.

Until I got my Tech 1 scan tool I used a straight pen an a volt meter

You guys should just spring for an inexpensive Android tablet and $35 for ALDLdroid along with an ALDL connector. U’ll use it over and over and over again.

Sorry to sound like an idiot, but what do you mean by “straight pen”?
I’ve got the tps in now by just centering the bolts. All ready drives better than before, but I’d like to get it adjusted properly.

Using a straight pin you can puncture the wire insulation to attain a voltage reading without hacking the harness. (Purchasing the tablet etc.., as Dom suggested is the best way to monitoring a host of parameters. Money well spent!)

The is setup works nicely for datalogging and for individual settings like this, I use it too. As Dom stated you’ll need a cheap android tablet, the ALDLDroid software and an ALDL cable (direct or Bluetooth). The website for ALDLDroid explains and has links to obtain all the hardware. Www.aldldroid.com.
Total investment should be under $100.

I got a aldl android set up and I was going to use it to set the TPS voltage.
I've never used scanner before so this is going to be a stupid question but are the volts the top value on my data log? If not, how do I get the app to show tps voltage?10974

I figured it out. I could not figure out how to get the aldldroid app to spit out the TPS voltage data, but the application from 1320 electronics does.
Turns out the TPS was at like .3v. I adjusted it to .54v. I drove it around a bit and it feels like it's fixed. The TPS code is gone and it sure drives better.

Glad you figured it out. AldlDroid has two indicators for throttle position. “TPS%” and “Throttle Position”. The first is obviously just a percentage. The later I believe, is the voltage. Your screen should look something like this before you turn the ignition on.

Yes, just confirmed it on mine. “Throttle Position” is the TPS voltage. Here’s a shot of mine just now.

I use an Amazon Fire 7. Works good but you have to hack some of the programming to get it to work. Amazon has some proprietary stuff on there. Just find a cheap android tablet on eBay or at Walmart and it should work just fine as is.

I've got a Samsung Galaxy tab 7. I'm not super savy with tech so I just spent the bucks to make it easy.

Nexus 7 tablets work well, I have both the Nexus 2012 and 2013. I should sell the 2012s as I rarely use them
