Few questions. Where do we buy the replacement now? Jerry?

Also for those of us who had a cam sensor failure what were the symptoms?

While I don't believe mine is having issues, I was looking into something else and was curious on these particular symptoms

any input?

THANKS

Do a search. Plenty on here about. You will get a code 31 if I remember correctly. In my case it would intermittently just stop running! A member here builds a replacement sensor. I have the prototype and it has been fine for 18 months now. As you have discovered the cam position sensor is now NA.

-=JEFF=- all I had was a SES code 31 that would consistently set in the DIC. I replaced the sensor and the Code 31 went away. GC

I’m having a hard time getting the new cam sensor back in. Any tips on getting it back in. Also, what about the shield? Leave it or put it back on?

Thanks

Rub a little motor oil on the bore entry in the head and on sensor o-ring and it should push right in with a slight twist. Shield should be put back on again.

I am at work and can't find the post but there is a vendor that sells the sensors as I have one

It needs to be modified for it to work as noted in prior post.

I can find the vendor later.

Pages 3 through 6 are useful.

Did you do this with a 90 or a 91 for testing? It took all day to take the old sensor out and another day to get it in. The ASR is right in the way and I have large hands. It is done.

Wow, that ASR must be a huge PIA.... I was done on my 90 in about 15 minutes, remove and replaced... Did it from under the car.

Yes, it was a huge pain. I have a pint of oil on my garage floor from swapping out the sensor. The ASR has a lot of hoses under it that was constantly in the way. Don’t want to do that again anytime soon.

Well, replaced the cam sensor and worked on my FX3 right rear timeout. Started up the car and it would barely run. WTF! Shut it down and pulled the code 31. So now I’m going to have to check around the ASR to see if it got put back correctly and check the connection on the cam sensor. It sounded like I only had 4 cylinders.

Phil’s inbox is full so I’m posting here. Got the sensor out and added a washer to it to increase the air gap on the sensor. Didn’t work. Ran a little better but still messed up. Tomorrow, I’m going to add another washer to try to increase the air gap a little more. The good news is that I can take apart the ASR and A.I.R. stuff in about 5 minutes. Had no idea that this could happen.
