Thinking about swapping out to an aluminum flywheel, do you have to or need to get a new clutch when swapping flywheel? Car a 92' has 20k miles so I'm assuming clutch wear is minimal.
Looking at a fidanza 198551

FYI: converting from a dual mass flywheel will result in transmission rattle which is loudest when in neutral with clutch engaged.
The Fidanza FW weighs in at 13-14 lbs
Jerrys Gaskets has custom manufactured aluminum FW’s at both 18 & 22 lbs. read more about applications & benefits;

My fidanza sounds like a sawz-all at times up until 2,500 RPM......All though the motor will spin up much faster .....The gear rattle in neutral really doesn't bother me......I hear some have used a sprung hub disc to mitigate the noise.....

No,stock clutch can be used....I did and I was at 46 k...

Just swapped out flywheel and that's it?

I have Fidanzas in three cars. I'd follow Jerry's suggestions.

If you choose Fidanza, I would replace the clutch disk and make sure it's a spring hub and minimum thickness. Be sure to clean the frictions surface on the flywheel.

Recommendations on a disc/sprung hub?

Yup, sprung hub disc helps with the rattle. Some transmissions rattle very little, some like crazy. Higher idle speed at 850 helps too. Had buzz saw sound on the old trans and engine. New trans and engine don’t have it. In my opinion it’s the Valley drain tube vibrating. I would isolate the tube with a rubber hose over it so it can’t hit the block. Or, just remove it altogether. If the secondary drain hole has been drilled per the service infomantion bulletin it superfluous anyway.

Oh and almost forgot. While you have all that stuff apart anyway. It might not be a bad idea to replace the master, slave and hydraulic line while your in there. You may have a low mile car but those seals and rubber components are still 25ish years old. Btw, luz my Fidanza, the engine really revs quickly.

Truth be told I will probably end up having mark do it, I'm just collecting parts 😁

Definitely a sprung hub it will cut down on some noise. My suggestion, is oem pressure plate and a centerforce dual friction disc or a Centerforce clutch setup with pressure plate and disc (If I remember right the CF pp has a higher clamp load than the LT5 pp - which in turn is higher than the LT4/LT1). On my car it only rattled a bit when very hot at idle. Wasn't noticeable I have many idle videos to show the sound. But under load there's definitely gear rattle if say you're loading the motor ie using a higher gear or two and/or shifting early.

Yeah I will probably contact Carolina clutch and see what they have available as far as a sprung hub

Carolina has gotten a bit of a bad rap because they had discs made in China that were breaking apart and inconsistent thickness or something along those lines. When I spoke with Tom he acknowledged the issue and suggested the more aggressive friction disc that had a steel backing plate which I went with. If I had to do it again, I would go centerforce without hesitation just my .02

Wow....I hadn't heard that, thanks for the heads up! Centerforce it is 😉😎👊

I have a Spec SC66A-2 aluminum flywheel, 18lbs with a sprung hub clutch for a Camaro with rpm at ~800 rpms there is minimal to no rattle with this combo.

Works really good.

I already ordered the fidanza so gotta find a good combo for it

I had the Fadanza 13lb flywheel in my '92Z I use to own with the same clutch. in my current set up I am using the same clutch again, just a different flywheel.

Centerforce # 381039

How did that combo do?

It worked quite well. Never had any issues with slippage. Was a little on the noisy side.

I prefer this combo better, seems to not be as loud.

I use Amsoil synchromesh manual transmission fluid in both transmissions.

I do not know how much hp this set up is good for but it is working well in the '93 which i am guessing is 475 - 500hp at the flywheel.

I believe a set of special length bolts for the flywheel. While you are in there may want to replace the pilot bushing too.

I've seen something about the bolts, I think jerry sells them. Pilot bushing and I think that may be it....
That Centerforce # 381039 was a DF right?

They are ARP bolts. If you search the part number will pop up or ask Paul I think he knows it.

Yes everything is a direct fit, no problems at all.

I did not use the Dual Friction clutch, just the standard 381039.

Looks like the dual friction is the same dimensions, just stronger.

Have to get mine up in the air on a proper lift and check my valley drain tube....Don't mind the little rattle in neutral, but I get the buzz saw sound in lower RPM upon acceleration......Grown used to it so it wouldn't hurt to check that drain tube..
