View Full Version : 90 degree adaptor for Fuel Pressure Test Hose

Trying to get my hose on the fuel rail schrader valve is a PITA. I was wondering if anyone knows of a 90 degree fitting that will screw into the test hose and over the fuel rail valve? All I can find are 90 degree fittings with a quick disconnect on the test hose side.

This is from memory so may not be accurate - I think it is a standard thread (something like 3/8-24 or AN-6. I had a fitting that fit, and I was able to cobble together a pressure tester. I think I temporarily removed the inner Schrader valve during the test.

I'll probably be around on Saturday if you want me to check to see if I have something you can borrow.

I was looking for an adapter to keep on hand. I guess if the valve is removed for testing, that would open up some possibilities. I have of bunch of misc. fittings I will try. Thanks for the idea!

Thread size is not big enough.

GM & standard Schrader I'm quite sure is .305 - 32 TPI (sometimes .302 is mentioned also and that I believe comes from a Metric conversion).

BUT this ain't correct for FI Schrader external. I believe the terminology for the FI Schrader is just "large Schrader".

Never thought of trying but a TSV-01 might work:

I was going to try the AC connectors ;)

Sorry to disappoint - I should have checked further!!

But I believe that ain't correct for the external thread of the fuel pressure Schrader. I looked further and I do think it's very likely 4AN - if I were looking to fabricate a 90° adapter I'd take the cap and check the cap against a 4AN first. That thread would make it 7/16-20 and an OTC 7430 adapter matches that for thread dimensions. -32 TPI is considered I guess "small Schrader" in fuel pressure language.

This adapter is part of the higher $$ Actron pressure kit

https://actron.com/content/right-angle-large-schrader-adapter

All of the "higher end" gauge packages will likely use what the OP has mentioned finding.

I used a Cornwell Tool kit to sort "nomenclature"

Refrigerant/AC is 7/16-20 I believe.

The routing I use works ok for a straight fitting, see this pic.

A straight fitting is all I use too, FWIW. I hadn't thought of running the hose under the alternator bracket tho.

Where did you get the extension hose for the FP Gauge?

I looked for an extension hose I could plug n play but couldn't find any so I made one up for my Actron CP7838 tester. https://www.amazon.com/Actron-CP7838-Professional-Pressure-Tester/dp/B0009XQUKC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1473210018&sr=8-1&keywords=Actron+CP7838

Gage -> barb fitting -> ext. hose -> barb fitting -> coupling -> original hose. I also used a hose clamp on the barbed fittings for safety and made sure nothing leaked before I took it out on the road.
