does anybody know where to get the windshield wiper inserts for our cars. the aftermarket wipers available do not work since they are too high. i unfortunately was replacing my stock mint windshield today after it was cracked and ruined during installation of some upgrades at a shop. while it was out i removed the wipers and went looking for replacements and did not have any luck.

I use to buy standard, same length wipers, remove inserts and replace the inserts only. About 3 years ago I switched to Trico Neoform beam type - even pressure across the entire length resulting in better, uniform wipe. Doesn't matter anyway since I quit driving my Z when wet.

of course I dont drive in rain but when I drove my car home from the shop it was a 8 hour drive and about 5 or those were in rain. I barely drove my car 200 miles the whole year until I took it for the upgrades and it was 500 miles each way. I will try removing the inserts and see how that works out. I think mine are the original wipers in there.

If I'm not mistaken I replaced mine with a set of the Rain X brand. No problems with clearance, but I'm not a rain driver either.

I gave up trying to mess with inserts and this was the subject a little over a week ago on the ZR1 Listserver. Here is what was posted by Marc H:

Trico 20-2 fits '90 - '94. 20-4 fits the larger diameter pin on '95 - '96. These blades are exactly the same as the OE blades.

I ordered and received the Trico 20-4 from Amazon today for my 95 and it fits perfect; it took less than a minute to install. :dancing

That was an interesting discussion over there , I was a participant - wipers aren't that difficult to understand. I've been an "inset user" for years and years ago actually used to keep blades removed from others as spares after replacing inserts. I mentioned the -2 and the -4 fitment also.

I bought blades for my '90 truck this fall and it's the first blades I recall purchasing for a very long time with the exception of my "WINTER BLADES" which will generally do 2 years max.

the tricos would contact my hood, but the factory part will not. Strange I know.

If I remember correctly I ordered replacement pair from Advance Auto shipped to my house. Will have to look up the part#, but they are exactly the same as what is on there now.....

And as Craig mentioned in above post about the part#'s......

I looked up the part I purchased, this is for my 94.....
TRICO Exact Fit Wiper Blades......20" part# 20-2

also do not order part# 20-1, even though they read the same, because the metal part of the blade is raised and will interfere with the hood

Could your issue be that you are using TRICO Part# 20-1??

Over the years I noticed, depending on particular ZR-1 (or C4 in general) hood to windshield clearance variations are such that hood would have to be raised a hair by lengthening the hood pin and bumper to clear the wipers (even OEM wipers) on some cars. Also, my OEM 20" wiper would periodically collide resulting in driver side wiper jack-knifing and scraping the hood edge. After I had my car painted I opted for 19" Trico Neoform (beam type) wipers for cleaner sweep. Luckily Neoform fits under the hood edge with less than 1/16" clearance.

I have no idea....i tried the part recommended by advance auto and auto zone and oriole and I kept having the same issue. So, I went to the local Chevy dealer and bought originals and have no trouble.

I will have to try again, maybe.
