I have a leak on the driver side. It is coming from just above the header where a wire goes into the head. It has a tin bracket that holds a black plastic piece that the wire runs through, it's held in the head with a 5/16 bolt.

I figured it's some kind of sensor or something. What is this and how do you get it out?

My apology for not knowing what it is.

I know a lot about drinking if y'all have any questions about that.

Thanks

That sounds like camshaft sensor. Cam shaft sensor has a no ring. I believe it's held in place with the sensor bracket bolted in with a 7 or 8 mm hex head.

Yeah i figured it had an O-ring on it. I guess I didn't pry on it enough to get it to come out.

I'll give it another try after another drink of course. JK

Thanks

Cam sensor. Changed mine several months ago. With the bracket off just rotate it left and right while pulling outward. Next time ur down this way, stop by and we`ll change it. Got 200,000 btu`s to heat ya if it`s cold. We`ll swap stories on Jerry Johnson and Mike Austin.

Hey Richard, thanks for the offer. When I tried to get it out I didn't want to pry too hard. I'll try your technique.

I'm still planning on coming down to visit one day. I've been down to my sisters place a few times over the past several months, usually just helped with their place and headed home.

speaking of leaks... anybody ever have a leak from a head plug?? there are plugs on the underside of the heads near the firewall and I see seepage out of one of he plugs on the right head closest to the firewall. it is not a heavy leak but enought to have my cleaning 2 drops a month from my garage floor.

I put a new O-ring on my cam sensor and it's still leaking.

I felt up in the head and it feels like it's smooth in there.

Why does the sensor look like it has two places to put an O-RING?

I put the O-ring on the grove closest to the magnet end, is that correct?

That is the way I have it on one on the shelf...."O" ring where you suggest
Maybe thicker "O" ring is required. I would say nothing wrong with using two "O" rings.

On the Cam Sensor....Groove diameter closest to the collar is .710 diameter and .10 width.
Groove closest to end is .710 diameter and .095 width but that measurement may be the same as width of first.
The OD each side (and between) the "O" rings is .807 and the ID of the bore in the Head is .810. The Diameter of the main body of the Cam Sensor is .740.

I got the O-ring from Jerry's Gasket, I'm assuming it's correct.

I looked locally for a O-ring and all the parts store O-ring's were thicker.

I'm thinking of trying 2 O-rings and maybe a little silicone on the flat surface of the sensor.

could be a header stud leak with the oil finding its way down the wire

Help, I don't know what is happening but I put a new O-ring on the sensor and it still leaked. I put 2 O-rings on it and a small bit of silicone, on the flat surface that meets the head, and it still leaked. Someone had put silicone around the wires where they enter into the sensor. Do you think it could be leaking from where the wires enter the sensor? I figured if it was leaking there the sensor wouldn't be working. I would give up but I can't stand even a small leak.
