There should be no need for multiple "ping"s. A few pings is all that is needed to be registered in the "arp" cache in each server/router along the path. Once in the arp cashe(table) it does indeed "lubricate" the flow in that the DNS lookup for the target no longer needs to be looked up. A better way is a trace route (tracert) command since on most servers the info is kept longer (timeout for data).
There are various incantations of this but the simplest is:
tracert corvettemuseum.org
Then sit back and watch the path your network request takes through all them there pieces of hardware.
Another little secret is to do multiple browser requests for the address. That is if you notice a delay in getting to you target address simply resubmit the address OR "refresh" the page request. It's like punching a hole through a clogged sewer line with a snake :blahblah:
Doesn't mater what browser, what OS, what hardware or what day of the week it is. This works.
You're a little over my head there Scott...
But it seems that once you HAVE the datapath to corvettemuseum.org domain established in ONE browser page, do you HAVE TO establish it again, with more browser pages to the site? Won't that 'clog' your OWN hardware - again, IF you already have the datapath established???
And even if you do NOT, isn't the syn-ack the first order?
Anyway, they did WELL dropping the '93 rubber down. Well done guys! http://www.zr1.net/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif http://www.zr1.net/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif http://www.zr1.net/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif
Wonder why they didn't drop it on to a dolly?
Anyone know where they drove the Z to? None of the other cams showed a truck outside the museum, and none showed the Z outside... Is it inside the museum elsewhere???
Ok guys I'm gonna really sound like a dumb here - but I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about
No idea what Linux or Unix is. I run Vista on a 5 yr old HP laptop. What is a "command line interface"? Or a "tracert"? Now the "multiple browser request" deal I can figure that out. Just keep hittin "refresh" on the webcam page correct?
ed.:
I'm not sure if Scott was agreeing with me there racinfan, but either way, to get a command line in Windows, click Start, then 'Run, and in the dialogue box, type cmd.exe. That give a Command Line Interface. Type ping corvettemuseum.exe. Your computer will send a rudimentary signal to corvettemuseum.org. Kind of like saying 'Hello'? Are you there? "Keep Talking To Me here".
Linux is a free operating system. Better than Windows is EVERY WAY. You can try it without changing your own PC. Download it [Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Long Term Support) ], burn a CD, and re-boot up from CD.

Yep - I am "Eric". I don't know which cam - I would assume one of the NCM staffers took the pics. They put up the one I posted and two more on the NCM Facebook page - I saved that one to my computer so I could upload it to Photobucket and post it on here....

I am not sure who made the decision to start up that ZR1 right after it came out of the hole. But it looks like it may have cost them an engine. They fired it up, drove away and left about 8 quarts of oil on the ground.
Why would you start up a car that had that kind of damage without checking it out on a lift first ???

Huge advertisement having it pulled from underground and then started up and drive away. It was a GM owned car, I wouldnt be surprised if the order to start and drive away came from GM itself.
Its only an LS9 anyways. Cookie cutter engine. GM has a few thousand laying around.
If any fuel injected car starts, that means it has oil pressure. Its a safety feature for a potential crash site. No oil pressure kicks out the fuel pumps, if it didnt an over turned or wrecked car's fuel pump would empty its fuel tank onto the ground. No oil pressure, no fuel pressure, less fire risk to 1st aiders, not to save the engine itself.

My 84 had an oil pressure switch by distributor that completed circuit for fuel pump. Wow! That's 30 years ago.

Wow, 30 years ago, it doesnt seem that long ago.
My fleet of 1997-98 Vortec 350 L31 trucks are some of the last distributer equipped vehicles, 2002-2003 vans were the last. These L31 engines use teh same high voltage coils that the LT1/LT4;'s use, and they eat distributer caps/rotors. I change them every year and actually notice seat of the pants power improvements. Such a high voltage cannabalizes the contact points. Its one of the reasons that GM went with CNP in 1997 in the LS1. The 1st BBC to go CNP was the 1998 L21 which is pretty much a Vortec 454 but with CNP(Coil Near Plugs) and ETC(electronic Throttle control) then for MY2000 the L18 8.1 496 GEN 7 BBC came about.
IIRC there is an oil pressure/fuel pump switch on the drivers side of the
block on the 1996-1999 GMT 400(88-98) GM trucks.

That's probably EXACTLY what they're trying to figure - move the dirt FROM the hole, to put it back in the hole later, OR, move it WITHIN the hole, to the deeper corner cavities.
But without knowing where 2 of the cars are exactly, the latter - more practical option isn't an option yet.

I just watched them lift a 20ft rod/poll and drop it into a small hole
located 20ft from the sink hole. They lowered it in with a wrench
attached half way up. Then backed the fork lift away. Then a guy calmly
walked over and removed the wrench whereupon the poll dropped in the hole
completely out of sight. Me thinks they are shoring up the area around the sink
hole making it more stable.

yup in the old days the whole project would be done by now of course it would have been done by a group of 12 year olds working 12 hour days 7 days a week but that would just be the cost of doing business. and who knows how many deaths there would have been doing the project. One death / $30 million in construction.
I spent a year batching concrete on the Neuse River / US 70 bridge, New Bern NC. $120 million, no deaths. One guy got raked across some Nelson studs, broken ribs, and a crane tipped over with a gashed forehead, and a fight over some found pot plants - no spleef on the jobsite guys http://www.tahoeforum.com/images/smilies/smokin.gif

Its an excavator with a long reach stick on it. Looks to me they need a bigger excavator with an even longer "stick" ( goes from the boom to the bucket )
unless they put a mini excavator in the hole and load the excavator bucket with a mini excavator.
I don't think anybody would want to work in the hole unless a crane was tethered to the mini excavator and they had their seatbelt on.
They say the hole is stable so perhaps the risk of being in the hole all day moving dirt isn't that dangerous.

EX5023 is not a ZR-1. It's a King Of The Hill Proof of Concept Prototype. The term ZR-1 wasn't coined at the time the car was built. Though it "is" what started it all for the wide bodies that we call ZR-1's. :flag:

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Paul.
On a serious note, the car "can" be restored. The frame looks to be bent but that's fixable, as well as the windshield frame. Door geometry would need to be evaluated and put back to spec. Once these things are done though, with the mechanical driveline, it's just all cosmetics. I have access to another bare frame for cannibalization. I'm sure GM has folks to do the job right.
It's simply a "process". No different than building a house. Once your foundation is set, the rest is pretty straight forward.

Tuesday, team members involved with the National Corvette Museum’s sinkhole recovery and remediation met to discuss the future of the Skydome and construction plan moving forward.* Presentations were made of all of the findings, from drillings, to microgravity readings, and the WKU cave and karst team’s exploration into the hole.
Dr. Jason Polk with WKU shared that the void discovered beneath the Skydome extended in two directions– one leading from the Skydome towards the Museum’s truck parking lot, and the other leading from the Skydome towards the pond.* Both cave areas start approximately 50 feet underground.* According to Dr. Polk, “You don’t typically have sinkholes without caves or voids of some type below them, so this finding was not surprising.”* He also indicated that in our area of Kentucky we drive through and around sinkholes and caves every day, with some types of sinkholes even being miles wide.* There are dozens of known, mapped caves in the Bowling Green city limits, and over 200 documented caves in Warren County.
Dr. Polk stated that they found mineral deposits which are indicative of dry conditions in the northern extension of the cave.* This information means that this portion of our cave is likely thousands of years old and has been there since long before the Museum was constructed.* The cave also probably hasn’t had flowing water in a very long time.
The team reviewed the construction documentation from the original building and Skydome.* Prior to construction of the building a geo-technical test was completed in accordance with normal standards.* They found nothing to indicate any problems.* “Normally if there is enough rock, it doesn’t matter what is below it,” said Danny Daniel of Scott, Murphy & Daniel Construction.* Daniel also indicated that rebar was not required in the concrete flooring of the Skydome.* “It’s no different than the floor of your garage at home.* Rebar was not needed to support the weight of the cars in the Skydome,” he added.* [EDITORS NOTE: SMD Construction did not build the original portion of the Museum]
The team thinks that our sinkhole was caused by the collapse of a portion of a cave roof, although they are still compiling data.*Several things could have caused this, including the extra weight from clay soils above the roof becoming saturated from heavy rain. The team stressed that there is no reason for anyone to be any more concerned for safety here than any other area prone to significant karst development and sinkhole collapse, and it is important to note that much of Bowling Green/Warren County is located in just such an area.
Dr. Polk and Dr. Leslie North, also with WKU Center for Cave and Karst Studies, will be conducting a presentation on Saturday, April 26 at 3:15pm CT on the sinkhole collapse and how it happened. The presentation will be in the Museum's Conference Center.
Moving forward the team is exploring ways to rebuild the Skydome floor.* One such plan includes drilling with micro piles then adding beams to ensure the Skydome floor is fully secure.* The Museum is also exploring various ideas, which would in some way preserve a portion of the sinkhole, helping to tell the story of what is now Museum and Corvette history.* “We will continue to explore these ideas as the process has not moved along far enough to know if keeping a portion of the hole is feasible or not,” said Wendell Strode, Executive Director of the Museum.* “The interest in our sinkhole and the rescued Corvettes has been more than expected, and our attendance for March was up 56% over March of last year,” Strode added.* “Our special display focusing on this event is now open in our Exhibit Hall.* Current plans are to keep the cars on display as they are so that guests through the summer and especially the thousands attending our 20th Anniversary Celebration will have a chance to see the cars and witness the sinkhole for themselves.”
On Thursday the Museum received a donation of a 40th Anniversary “Ruby Red” Corvette. Lynda Patterson of Louisville, Kentucky donated her car in response to the news of the sinkhole swallowing another “Ruby.”* The complete release on Ms. Patterson’s car donation is available online here.
Representatives from GM will be meeting with the NCM next month to inspect each of the Great 8 and determine which ones are appropriate to be restored.* The Corvettes that are not restored will be kept on permanent display as part of preserving and telling the story of the February 12th Sinkhole Collapse.

Hmmmm, I put rebar in the floor of my garage........
One has to wonder about sink holes below the factory.
But then based on the report there would seem to be no increased
risk as compared to other parts of the county.
"The team stressed that there is no reason for anyone to be any more concerned for safety here than any other area prone to significant karst development and sinkhole collapse, and it is important to note that much of Bowling Green/Warren County is located in just such an area."
I think the NCM and factory should move to Washington state.
No sink holes here, just volcanoes
