Anyone know the best place (and part numbers) to get rear hatch struts and those short ones (about 6'' long) you can install on the unused "studs" for the hood?

Do the short struts make any difference when lifting the hood?
I think GM discontinued them after 88 or so, but left the "studs"

Thanks

Doug, I did the short struts on mine. Definatly makes opening the hood easier. From the upright position, you have to push it closed. Bought them from e-bay. I think I asked, and none of our regular friends (Jerry and others) had them.

After Gunny turned me on I added the short ones to my 94 and they sure make the hood a lot easier to handle.

The first time I opened the hood after using the 2 small struts and the factory strut I thought the hood would fly forward and break something, too much pressure with all 3 in place,I think anyway.

There is a company on ebay (PartsHighway) that sells struts made by StrongArm,. They sell the single long strut as well as the smaller struts used from 1984 to 1988. I read a post in the past where a ZR-1 owner just added one of the small struts in addition to the original longer single strut.

One USA-Made Hood Lift Support (Shock/Strut/Arm Prop/Gas Spring) 4972

Two USA-Made Hatch Lift Supports (Shocks/Struts/Arm Props/Gas Springs) 4903 4904

I purchased struts from this company in the past for the trunk of my Lexus. I was glad to find parts that were made in the USA.

I just bought two of these Hood Supports (one for a 90' and one for a 91'). These new Hood Supports will actually hold the hood up without the stop in place and you actually have to apply a slight down pressure to get the hood to easily and slowly start to close. Amazing what a New Hood Support actually is capable of.

If I pull the hood down about 6 inches and let go it will actually go back up to full open ;)

Last year I replaced my rear hatch struts and weatherstripping. Bought the parts from the dealer for $475. I know expensive. He also installed them for me for $261. That was for struts and weatherstrip. The new struts make a world of difference!
