View Full Version : Source for fuel line clamp

Anybody have any idea where I could source this fuel line clamp? As you can see in the pic this is for the hard fuel lines that curve around and drop down on the passenger side.

http://www.zr1.net/forum/picture.php?albumid=220&pictureid=2223

This clamp is broken and my fuel lines have slid up and are touching and arcing against the blower motor connection at the back. I repurposed some wire loom from elsewhere on the car and wrapped the fuel line until I can locate a new clamp. I haven't been able to locate one through the common parts houses. I may have to hit up Shawn at Corvettenutz but thought I would exhaust all of the possibilities for a new part first.

Thanks in advance, guys.

David, you're also missing the aluminum piece underneath the braided hoses. The larger clamp on top can be made from standard heater hose clamps on various Corvettes throughout the 60's and 70's.

Have one in hand that almost fits. Electrical supply house. Maybe Home Depot. Not exact, but real close

Brett, that's actually the piece I'm after is the piece on the bottom. I assumed it was part of the clamp. Not knowing what else may be missing I thought I would just replace the whole thing. I may just end up fabricating a bottom piece.

David,
Dynomite asked me about machining these so guess it's time. Can you send me your old piece and I'll do a quick turnaround for you on it?
Thanks, Carter

I made two of my own Fuel Line Brackets but it was not good enough for Carter......:D
Now if Carter were to Etch in Deep Red 87 Oct or 91 Oct on the end of that bar.

Carter uses CNC Machining and I use a round file :sign10:

My clamp is broken also. Looks like a common problem.

Here's what I discovered (with the help of Jep and Marc Haibeck). If that clamp is broken it will allow those fuel lines to shift and move around some. In my case they moved forward and I then had a fuel line resting against the electrical connector for the blower motor. (You can see the connector at the far left of the pic). I caught a wiff of something burning or something hot and thought it was my clutch at first. Then someone said it smelled more electrical. That's when Marc noticed that the fuel line was sitting on top of that connector and actually arcing and burning the insulation around one of the wires. So he scavenged some loom from another location and insulated the fuel line for now.

If your clamp is broken I would definitely keep an eye on it or contact Carter for a new one. He's going to be making me one in the next few weeks so now would be a good time to hit him up about one.

Carter (one design option you might consider).......The billet clamp base is actually counter sunk underneath to provide more support as it sits on that screw/bolt that holds the fuel line clamp to the Evaporator Housing. The counter sinking provides more support for the Billet Clamp than the shoulder of the bolt only.

Hole in clamp is 1/4 inch with 5/8 inch hole (on bottom of Billet Clamp) recessed 1/16 inch so Billet clamp rests flush on Evaporator Housing mounting base. Billet clamp is then held tight against Evaporator Housing rather than tight on bolt which may or may not be tight in evaporator housing.

87 Octane Billet Clamp tight on top of Evaporator Housing................6 mm bolt..........use 10 mm wrench for nut

Base of Fuel Line Bracket on Evaporator Housing....................Billet Clamp is 1-7/8 x 3/4 x 1/2 inch

Hole in clamp is 1/4 inch with 5/8 inch recessed hole
(on bottom of Billet Clamp). This allows the shoulder
of the bolt to sit inside the Billet Clamp.

Cliff,
Thanks for the feedback on the needed part. I won't have the example till th 17th from Fully Vetted. I'll start design/prototyping then.

IF anyone is interested please chime in on this post. I do NOT have a price yet but I promise it won't be over $25 shipped. Do not let the price scare you as this was only a guess and WILL probably be way less.

This will be a billet 6061 T6 aluminum part worthy of your engine compartment :dancing

Take care and don't forget to order a anti-fall hood prop key as I want you to be safe and NOT be swallowed by the clam shell

Carter my man..............I am proud to have ALL of your Bling on Three Corvettes :D

Especially that Oil Filter Cover that actually..........gradually slides down as the air escapes around the oil filter....just changed oil on 90' Z today after a top end :p

I adjusted the position (using a 4 foot long 2 x 4) of the passenger side Injector Housing Coolant Manifold outlet tube just a tad for a perfect fit ;)

I was thinking a red Air Duct between the air horn and George Braml SS Air box would be a nice addition to accentuate the Carter Bling :handshak:
