Here you go Scott. Did this yesterday. No damage. They pop out nicely. You can even do it multiple times.

Replaced the ball joints last year(think I did upper and lower and they were AC or Moog) when I did the poly bushings on the front end. Chassis had 115K on it. Took the car for a wheel alignment and the shop told me they would not align car before replacing ball joints. Polybushings btw are a very worthwhile upgrade. Front end feels much tighter and precise.
No, I did this because Pete noticed my upper A arms were installed backwards. IOW, Left was on the right and vice versa. I know I re-installed the arms the way they came off when I did the bushings so I must have gotten the car that way. Never thought to look. Now that dyno runs were completed and before th 1/2 mile, I wanted to make certain everything was correct.
A-arms are now swapped into correct positions and going for alignment this week.

I've had good luck with this tool to separate the lower ball joint. I always like to see alternatives before beating the crap out of it with a pickle fork and hammer.

Perfect! Thanks. I did this once but was not sure if I used my ball joint tool or not. It's the kind that looks like a two pronged fork. It damages the rubber but in the case of replacing the ball joint you don't care. When you just want to do the rubber bushings you don't want to damage the rubber boot on the ball joint.
Your puller idea is what I was hoping for. And I just happen to have a Craftsman puller just like the one you show.
Thanks again.
