Recently many have complained about the hood props falling down do to wind, bumping, etc. Well, no longer will you have to worry about the hood falling on your head. CT Machining has manufactured an item that gaurantees that the hood will NOT fall if you use the item they have invented. The item is made of 6061 T6 aircraft aluminum and fits in your pocket. You will be proud to own and display this item.

There will be a group buy running thru next Thursday for the "Hood Prop Stop"

2404

2405

2406

2407

The price is $15 (delivered to BG) and $18 shipped. You asked for them and they are now here. Thank you, Carter :dancing

PS: Minimum order of 15 to have them delivered to BG......

On my 90 there is no notched area on the lower tube.
Is that necessary for the piece to fit?

carter200
05-03-2013, 07:15 PM
Scott,
I see the notch you are talking about and your rod may not have the notch but the rod has to sit on top of the bottom tube and this item will still work just fine.

Cliff,
Are you wanting me to fix that or make you a sweet looking clamp.....

This one works purty goot for me......but if you have a Carter Special ;)
My original plastic crapola fuel line clamp broke when I was messing with the Evaporator. And........ I eliminated the Micky Mouse Plastic Clamp for the TB coolant return line cause I have no TB coolant on either the 90' or 91' :D

I know....you are going to make the whole thing Billet Aluminum (top and bottom).....now that would be nice...but I have two Zs as you know.

And....you are prolly going to engrave 87 Octane on one side of the Clamp and 91 Octane on other side of the Clamp so I can switch the Billet Aluminum Clamp to show which Octane I am using :D

GC,
I am glad people are taking advantage of this offer and the item itself. The hoods falling for so many reasons has been an issue for awhile and I've had a few ideas on how to fix the issue but was not able to act on my thoughts till recently.
This should have been an issue item when purchasing the car. Thanks and please pass this on to all you know as I want as many people as we can to be safe with the hoods open.
Fully Vetted (David Adams) will be taking some of the anti-hood prop pieces to BG to offer for sale there. He'll also be the point of contact on the delivery of the ones the people wanted delivered instead of shipped.
This works on ALL C-4's so tell anyone you see about it, please. Thanks to all my friends and new acquaintances for the support on this.

I received mine yesterday. It does not fit. I have a 91 and the top of the metal tube is different. There is no notch in the top of the tube. Instead, it has an orange plastic piece extending above one side of the tube. I can make it fit by removing some material from the flat side of the device. I could cut a V grove or file or grind a channel to match the shape of the upper rod. I can't post pictures right now because I'm not at home.

I researched and all stock 88-96 have the same prop rod assembly. Sorry yours is different. Please return the ant-fall hood prop key in same condition as received and I'll reimburse you for the part and return shipping up to $2.50 worth.
Thanks, Carter :handshak:

That's quite a few gallons of 103 octane racing fuel

Mine works fine on my 91 with the orange piece on the hood support

I tried it again and it won't fit. It can be forced in, but it bends the plastic piece. I think I can make it fit by making a groove or channel in the flat surface of the device. I would guess that I need to remove about 3/32" of material.

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g311/corvettez/HoodSupportLock_zps2d96c5a5.jpg

I think the plastic piece is there to make it easier to center the strut into the tube when closing the hood so I wouldn't want to remove it.

You have a choice. Keep your orange tab (first one I've ever seen) and have a hood that can/will fall at anytime on you or others or remove the orange piece and have a safe to work around hood.
My previous post about returning the anti-fall hood prop key still stands. Remember that the intent of this key is as a safety device.

I have a 91 with the orange plastic piece. Mine fits fine BUT I have to raise the hood just beyond the stopping/resting point before it will slide into place. No problem. Just raise the hood about 1/4" more and slide it into place before you lower the hood back to the final stopping/resting point..

Thats what I have used in the past also, but when I bumped into it wrenching out it came. That wont happen with Carters anti-fall hood prop key. Great idea Carter

I just can't see myself pulling into a Cars N Coffee and opening the clamshell while people are gathering around and as they start to oggle I have to say, "Oh, wait. I need to do this real quick..." Then I break out my screw driver and stuff it down the prop rod...

I can slip the hood prop key in without anyone noticing and even if they do I just tell them it's a locking device. Most people will never even see it.

Great job, Carter. As always...

Got mine today! Nice and simple, yet highly effective and safe! Thanks for a well made device to keep us all safe! Me and my fumble fingers did drop it into the engine bay the very first time I removed it from the rod slot...10 minutes of fishing I didn't expect:censored:

Funny you should say that. I just got mine yesterday in the mail.
Looks great! Shiny, smooth. The first time I went to try my new,
shiny prop piece I also dropped it down by the smog pump area.
I got mine quickly just getting my fingers a little dirty.
Mine only inserts down about half way. Enough to be effective,
but the picture shows it going down to the hub. I'd cut mine,
but then it won't be so purdy.

Mine does fit all the way in. Its snug and you can definately tell its a quality piece. Maybe a small ring on the outer edge would prevent it from being so easy to drop. But then it might not be so stealth:cheers:

Ted,
You need to be sure you are pushing the rod all the way to the left then push the prop key in.

Please send me a PM as well. Interested in one with a hole for keychain.

Also, I've seen a few of the other cool items you make. Do you have a list, or is there a place where we can see most or all of the items you can offer? I would be interested in this, as I'm sure others would too.

If there are items you have made previously that would need to have a minimum qty, let us know in a new thread.

I'll have to get back with you as I have a list but it's not 100% of all the goodies I make. I just sold the last Prop Key I had in stock. I'll put you on the list for the next batch, if that is ok. They are $25 with the hole and $20 without the hole. No charge for shipping in the US.

All my work is custom so NO quantity required.
