Hello. I have two 1993 LT1s, but just purchased a 1990 black ZR-1 with 33K miles and have some code/electrical issues I need help with.

My issues are:

INFL REST light on
ABS light on
Selective ride light on
LTPWS light not on (and it should)
horn doesn't work
stereo lights up, but no sound
tach reads low
I have checked codes with a set of Gordon K's plugs and get some strange answers:

INFL shows a 16 or 26 code, but only after waiting 45-60 secs (DIC light had strange flashes, so hard to get a true code reading)
ABS gives no code (but DIC light is on)
ECM shows no codes
CCM shows no codes
FX3 has a pile of codes (13,14,21,22,23,31,32,33,34,41,42,& 43)
I switched front tires to get the car home, but did not get a LTPWS light or code
Do I have a bunch of separate issues or maybe a bad ECM or PROM? Any ideas or suggestions? Do I need a "real" ODB1 code reader?

Thanks for the help.

Can't help with the issue's, but there are plenty of people here that can. But welcome, I also have a black 90, ain't they beautiful? Somebody will will post up shortly to help with the issues. Welcome aboard. -Steve

Could be a grounding issue. But first I would reset everything. Reset the codes and disconnect the battery for a minute. Then as issues come up check for any codes and address that code. You might also reseat the Prom. A 1990 with 33K miles could be one that has sat around quite a bit so you might have a corrosion issue with connections.

Thanks Mom. It was driven only 1500 miles in the past 12 years.

I disconnected the battery and checked the ECM and PROM for corrosion and tight connections this morning. No difference in the DIC lights, but I did not re-check the codes.

How do you re-set the PROM?

Thanks again.

Mark,
Regarding the INFL REST light, I just fixed that on my car, it a corrosion issue where the airbag sensors are mounted on the fraime. A code 16 is the drivers side sensor and it's mounted on the frame behind the battery. The code 26 is the passenger side senser and it's mounted on the frame behind the windshield wash bottle. Both senser need to be remove and clean the frame where they mount. My sensor had rust under both, I scrubbed with a wire brush, and remounted using di-electric grease. Then you have to clear the code in the computer. There is a thread on that, it's fairly involved. I used my tech 1A to clear it.

ALDL CODE-CLEARING TECHNIQUE
When using this code-clearing technique, a digital wristwatch can be quite helpful. The timing sequence discussed below is very important to successfully clearing codes. The watch can help you with timing the 3-second intervals more exactly.
1.Turn ignition "OFF".
2. Ground ALDL terminal "K".
3. Turn ignition "ON".
4. Wait for codes to begin flashing (approximately 5 seconds). When codes begin flashing, unground ALDL terminal "K" for 3 seconds +/- 1/2 second.
5. After ungrounding terminal "K" as described in Step 4, ground it again for 3 seconds +/- 1/2 second.
6. Unground ALDL terminal "K", and wait 10 seconds. Before turning ignition "OFF", verify that Code 12 flashes six (6) times. If Code 12 does not flash six (6) times, codes have not been cleared properly. Begin clearing procedure again starting with Step 1.

Since you've cleared what codes you can by disconnecting the battery
you'll need to prioritize which defect you want to hit first. Then I'd use the search feature of this forum for threads that cover it. (homework)
Armed with that you can begin probing whichever issue you want to resolve with a new thread. Or you may get lucky and find a fix in an old thread.

I concur with zr1mom and Scrrem.......the first thing I would do is clean all the grounds on the engine block and Frame (always good to do to prevent future issues). I would also clean up the junction connector block just to the right of the battery (remove all the little red wires and steel wool them as well as the nut and connections). Clean the battery posts and make sure your battery is fully charged as well as make sure you negative cable is clean and making good contact with the engine block and engine block to frame. Already suggested positive battery cable cleaned on junction connector block.

Then I'd use the search feature of this forum for threads that cover it. (homework)
Or you may get lucky and find a fix in an old thread.

Then I would pass on the "homework" :D and use the resources in my signature where the "homework" has already been done.
I have already found a thousand fixes in "old threads" ;)
Or.....if you like...."new fixes" in a "new thread".....second resource :p

Do I have a bunch of separate issues

Hi Mark, you've received some great advice so far. Yes, it's certainly possible that you have all of those issues. My 90 with <50K miles had a similar number of issues when I bought it last year.

Lots of good resources. I will second Cliff's (Dynomite) recommendation to use his Solutions link.
