Has there ever been any consideration of a movie or at least a documentary of the Lt 5 development, production, and record endurance run at Fort Stockton. As I read the book "heart of the beast" it reads like a movie.

I've seen reference to a dvd of the run by a member who sold them to members a while back but I tried to find one and so far have not. I too would love to see this...the photos of the engine assembly in Stillwater in the book, HOTB, are great. I keep realizing how special this engine is. The other day I saw the exploded view of the block and its parts and realized finally what they meant by a ladder bottom then did some more research into how that helped make it rigid and what two versus four bolt traditional journals meant with their little bolts. This thing has 1/2" bolts that snug that bottom ladder bracket in plus all the outer bolts and are way more substantial than the iron block engines with two or four bolt mains holding the journals for the crank bearings. A two part block plus oil pan with baffles and then the heads. It just keeps getting better. Ferrari uses a 64 degree v 12 which would be taller than our 90 degree v8 but they use a dry sump oil system to shorten the whole thing. Their dohc v12 6.3 litre fits under the hood of their F12 Berlinetta which the C7 stock two valve pushrod 450 hp engine does and which are virtual copies of the bodies. Theirs dumps 730 hp with the dohc technology. I think we own something so unique in Vette terms and an opportunity lost for them that these cars are really special. The vast majority of Corvette owners have no clue about these and many are lost in the myth that the C4 isn't good. If I hadn't seen a black ZR-1 at local shows and started wondering I probably would have accepted that since I also own a 76 bright red four speed l48.

That would be a great documentary ! Not only for LT5 aficionado's but also to the entire automotive industry.

If anyone knows where I might purchase the DVD mentioned in the above response from Lance, please let me know.
The only flaw really in a c-4, aside from having to "shoe horn" yourself into and out of the car is the squeaky targa top. Does anyone have any solutions to the squeaks...... :)

No squeaks in any of my ZR1's. Take the top off. Clean and silicone lube all rubber weather-stripping including pins , adjust fit then tighten adjustement fittings. Then tighten top evenly (not too tight) .
The process may take a good half hour. Time very well spent.

Guess I should have checked closer. The front adjusting bolts were lose.. Tightened them and presto, no squeaks. Thanks!

mine only makes noise going in and out of my driveway, which has a low curb I must climb over. The car basically twists and I can hear it make groaning and creaking noises. After that I don't hear anything, but a slight wind noise from my painted top, nothing from the clear one. I guess I will try those pads, but I think my creaking and groaning comes from the halo itself.
"creaking and groaning comes from the halo itself"
If I was closer , find it and solve the problem in minutes for you. Going to BG ??

Get the older B&B Tri Flo exhaust. You won't hear a thing......even after you shut the car off, for about ten full minutes.
If my car has any squeaks or attles, I've never heard them. LOL

Mine also once had creaking and groaning.
I thought it was the hardware in my back.
Turns out it was loose bolts in the roof.

Don't laugh. I've seen older threads than this revived! I've got one serious creak that I will be chasing down today. Left rear and it is every time the suspension is compressed and then uncompressed. Up and down, creak, creak, creak...Sounds like an old mattress. Drives me nuts. Doesn't happen in the winter. The Corsa actually made it worse because now there is no drone to drowned it out! Anybody else have that one?
