My emblem is really faded ... I was curious if there is a good source for a replacement?
What is the procedure for this, is the old one held on by 2 mounts into holes on the body?
Please share if you know of a place, thanks :) ---

Ebay.

Madvet.com or Ecklers has these sometimes a good price can be found on ebay as well. Removal can be a chore its not just two nuts but adhesive underneath. I use thin gauge weed wacker line and GooGone to remove the adhesive remnents. Work the weed wacker line back and forth like a saw and it wont mar the paint. GC

What is it usually listed as " Gas Tank Corvette Emblem " ... are the 90's different than the other years?
So there are two bolts AND adhesive? Im guessing the bolts can be seen when the gas tank lid is up , lol ... I will look next time I fill up. I haven't noticed them before.
Just use RTV to reapply the new emblem?
What do you think about Corvette Central, reputable but pricey? ---
Thanks :) ---

I ordered new ones in the past. The new one will come with an adhesive backing covered with a thin sheet of plastic. I only attached it with the nuts and left the plastic sheeting on. When it comes time to wax all I need to do is take off the nuts, pop it off, wax and put it back on. It's neat and clean.

FYI
Be careful removing or tightening the lock-nuts on the emblem. The post is only plastic and can breakoff easily...been there, done that.

Is it the same procedure for the hood emblem? I see they sell them as "front and rear" sets ... I may as well get a new one on the front too :)
Thanks guys ---

Yes however because removing the nuts on the backside of the hood. Have a mag tool handy as the nuts tend to fall inside the hood lol
Also the new emblems are not threaded they are plastic posts or pins. Do not try to chase the original nuts you remove from your old emblem onto the posts or they will snap off. Go to ACE Hardware with emblem in hand to get the right size chase nuts that cut a thread into the posts as they tighten. GC

GC, great tips with the magnet.
I saw that the 90 were red, and the 91+ were black on the emblems ... same with the cam covers.
Thanks :) ---

I put a piece of tape inside the socket to help tighten the area that comes in contact with the nuts.I tape the emblem on the hood to keep it in place.Jim Butler Chevrolet has these emblems.

No emblem on the gas TANK? Obviously, your car is a Chineese knock-off! ;)

Hey, you know what would be neat?
How about gas lid and front emblems with the ZR-1 splash on one side and Corvette or ? on the other! Callaway did something similar on their C4s and other cars. GM should have done it. See thumbnail (sorry for the upside down and I don't have a clue how to photoshop it...) The stock emblems are readily available and the "inserts" look like they could be removed easily.
Any ideas on where to get the "inserts" made? I'll bet they'd be a big seller in our "store".
I wonder where Callaway had it done? Big John do you know? Has someone already come up with this idea in the past?

There are somethings that I am not supposed to tell!!!
If you are going to sale something that changes the GM emblem you must get their permission first.

Hey GC, I got my emblems today. The Gas Tank Lid one is threaded with sticky on the back ... the hood one is unthreaded with no sticky like you said.
The thing that got me , is the entire hood emblem looks and feels metal. Not sure I will be able to "chase thread" these posts. If they are metal ... what should I use to attach them?
Thanks :) ---

If they were metal they would be threaded. If they are smooth pins they are chromed plastic

If the emblem is metal it might be an early 91 piece, rare. If they are metal use the speed nuts that came off the old emblem to run the threads on studs.

They are a lot heavier than I expected, and pretty solid though. ---

OK, just went out to try and install the rear gas tank deck lid emblem. I got about 50% done , but I cant get it to grab with dental floss on the bottom 1/2. I think I went through half a roll , and now have a TON of shredded crap around the emblem LOL.
Next step is to get some fishing line I guess. That sticky material is rock hard after 23 years. I tried doubling and tripling the line , with no luck. Was at it for over 30 minutes, and my fingers felt like they were going to get cut off by the floss!!!
I got the cam cover emblems off and replaced in about 10 minutes though LOL ... atleast it wasn't all a waste of time :) :

I used 3M Adhiesive Remover and let it soak a bit. Then the dental floss or fishing monofiliment or the like works much better. NOTE: I tested some others (as recommended) on the paint under the door sill (out of sight) to see if paint was removed. Goo Gone and a couple others removed paint, but the 3M did NOT. I used 3M.

OK, sounds like a plan ... I've removed the emblems on a 10 year old car before with no issues, but on a 23 year old car it was a lot harder ... hahah , thanks for the suggestion ---

Let me look through my records and find the seller/price for you Scott.
They say GM RESTORATION PARTS on the bag, and seem like good quality.
