So I just got the software for my new car scanner (turns your laptop into a scanner). It's got a ton of features, but I can't wait to test the built in dyno and accerlation tests it has.

I sense some cold air intake tests in the near future .

Hey GC, I was looking at this software a few months ago and it was $197 just for the software. Then I looked again a week or so ago and saw they were selling it for $97 so I jumped on it. You will also need to buy the OBD II USB cord ($35 (for my other cars)) and the OBD I USB for the ZR-1 ($60). I also bought an inverter from Autozone for $25 (but not necessary if you charge up your laptop first).

Oh and yes it works on several platforms, Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8. I haven't tried the data logging but it does have it. I really haven't had a chance to play with it yet. Only reset some lights on my pick-up.

It's software for your laptop, the program is called Scanmaster-ELM and is sold by Total Car Diagnostics. Not sure what you mean by which scanner, I use my laptop, just plug it into my car with the USB cords.

Gotcha. I thought you used a stand alone scanner plugged into your laptop and then this is the software for it. If I'd read your first post correctly you explained it pretty well.

This is the site I bought it from
http://www.totalcardiagnostics.com/toad/
and yes the older model Z's will have 12pin, the later model Z's could have 12 or 16 pin. You have to look at the connector to be sure on the later model ones.

I use "Datamaster" for my 1991 Syclone and LOVE it ... real time data for every parameter of the engine you could think of.

Looks like I may pick this up now too if this is the only option we have for the ZR-1 :) ---

Datamaster should do your ZR-1 also. You should have no need for anything else. Use what you're familiar with. If you own the Datamaster for your Scyclone then you only probably need to buy the ZR-1. Maybe $40. I'm not real familiar with it but I'm quite sure thats the way it is.

And besides you understand it and I believe it's a much more manageable program. The first hit is steep, but you've got all the cables etc that you need.

Should you need an ECM for your Scyclone I believe I have new in box for it

I don't know about presently but I'm quite sure Marc H used Diacom because I sent my Diacom program to a fellow so he could send Marc logs that he generated with it to finalize the tune on his 415.

The only fault with the Diacom is that it requires a serial port although I've never tried a USB to serial converter and it is slow. I have an older 600 ThinkPad that it is on and I've not used it in quite some time, a very long time. I need to replace the screen and it's been apart for quite some time. I've a Tech1 also.

If you've a very old laptop with serial port you might consider this:

Started digging into the programs, this software is not for the computer illiterate, lol. The dyno and acceleration tests are only for OBD II cars:cry:. Thought all the features were interchangeable. It does a have a dashboard and datalogging features for OBD I plus reading DTC and clearing codes. I'm bummed about not being able to use the dyno feature on the Z. Guess I'll have to buy an OBD II Corvette;).

I would love to go to a track, but I'm worried about destroying my very expensive tires. And Dyno's are expensive too, lol. I've heard a track wears tires quickly. Is that true?

Just don't do a burnout and its no different than driving on the street :) . The track is usually $25 for the night ... depending on where you go you can run between 2-5 times.

The Dyno is $75 for 3 "pulls" around these parts. It will tell you peak hp/tq at your wheels ... and your Air/Fuel ratio , as well as your power curves.

I think its money well spent ---

The only place I know of around here is $150 for 3 and the nearest track is in NJ. it might be $25/ea, but I think you would need a bunch of people to go. Good to know the track is no different then the street.

Well I have an update about this software. After weeks of fooling around I finally got it working properly, with the help of a programmer from EFI=D>. Here's some screen shots of the datalogging I did.

You can input up to 4 items in each chart and there's 4 charts. There's also 16 inputs for the virtual dash (I didn't use all of spots for dash or charts). You can save everything and play it back in real time. There's also DTC you can view and reset, and lots of other stuff; spark advance, throttle position, etc.. The software also comes with TunerPro RT. It does the same things as EFIV4 but you can also re-burn your PROM. I haven't dove into this one yet, but now that I got EFI working I now know I can get the Tuner Pro to work too. Overall I would recommend this product and the EFIV4. It does require a bit of computer saavy (I'm no computer programmer though) and don't expect immediate responses when asking for help from support. The help will definitly come, but there's a day or two+ for response time. It cost $97 for the software, $35 for OBD II USB adapter cord, and $60 for the OBD I USB adapter cord (certain OBD I cars will need different cords). Not bad for $192. You get the ability to look into any cars ECM from late 80's-present and re-burn chips too, if that's your thing. There's also the virtual dyno for OBD II vehicles (my OBD II vehicles are a Dodge pick-up and Ford Escape. Don't think I'll use it on them, lol).

I'm seeing the same error (socket pin count) today 04/08/13
OBD-1 Car Support List:
If your car(s) is included in this list, you're lucky! Because it means TOAD (http://www.totalcardiagnostics.com/toad) software will read your OBD1 car. (If your car is in List 3 (http://www.totalcardiagnostics.com/support/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=17#l3) below, then you can also ECU tune your car).
However, if your car is NOT included on this page — then no software in the world is going to support your OBD1 car (because TOAD already has the largest OBD1 software support in the world). In that case — your only option is to find a OBD1 hardware handheld scan tool reader (http://www.totalcardiagnostics.com/images/scan-tool.jpg).

The next question is: What cable/interface do I get for my OBD1 car?
Answer:
(Note: ELM327 (http://www.totalcardiagnostics.com/elm327) will *NOT* work on any car mentioned on this page. Because ELM327 is only for OBD2 cars. All cars on this page are OBD1.)
OBD1 has no universal cable. For example...

All GM Cars (Ford, Holden) (16 Pin)
Camaro (16 Pin)
Firebird (16 Pin)

I felt it was worth it because it works on OBD I and II. Customer support has much to be desired, but overall I feel it was money well spent.

You buy it online from here http://www.totalcardiagnostics.com/toad/
and get the cables from here (although I did buy the OBD II cable from Total car diag)http://www.aldlcable.com/
Everything is done online (even customer support, which is slow).
I used Paypal for both and the software and cables came week later.

Yea I like it, it was just a PIA to iron it all out and get it up and running (there wasn't an exact vehicle file for a 1990 ZR-1, had to create one). I haven't even dove into the Tuner Pro yet, I'll give my review once I learn it and get it going.

haven't heard anyone mention EASE

runs on Windows, and does a pretty good job of logging.

I think I paid 225 or so for it but it's been so long ago I don't really remember

TTS Datamaster is pretty good too.

any EASE users out there???

EASE is what I use if I want a software-based scan tool.

It's the only one which can support OBD and OBD2. It also supports data from controllers other than the ECM. I'm not aware of any software-based scanner which can do that.

So I finally got the TunerPro RT working. You got to love the online community. Robert Saar created one of the adx files for the ZR-1 and took the time (free of charge) to help me get TPRT working through email exchanges. So, now I can datalog through EFI or TunerProRT. Once I learn a lot more, I'll buy an emulator then I can start tuning. Here's a screen shot of a brief datalog while idling.
