The Red415 is like the Tasmanian devil from the old cartoons. I'm still getting to know it and hoping a few minor issues resolve, but overall it is an around town monster.
Here's a quick rundown of a few fun cars. I don't live where I can take them out and have a spirited run without driving an hour. I'll try to get a baseline of each in the coming months. No current state dyno but some reference numbers.
Yellow415: 415 cid, LPE stg 2 cams, 4.10s, wilwood brakes, coilovers
Red415: 415 cid, stock cams, 4.10s, brembo brakes, coilovers
LPE385: 385 cid, unk LPE intake cam, 4.10s, LPE Alcon brakes, stock suspension
SGC350: 350 cid, SGE stg 1 cams, 4.30s, Baer brakes, coilovers
Yellow415 was a monster. 12:1 compression & max porting. Unfortunately, it needed attention. After the attention, 11:1 (or 11.5:1...need to look) compression (not necessarily by choice) and what's feels like a bunch of timing removed. Before the car exhibited an unusually strong low end for a cammed car...after it feels neutered. It was twitchy before but progressive now. The attention also yielded big valves, which it didn't have before. It still pulls like a rocket ship up top. I felt this car would leave my 2015 Z06 before, but now would have to catch up. Driveability is poor aside from WOT. Dyno'd 555 rwhp before attention (after first build).
Red415 went in for a smoking problem. New pistons and a slight overbore later, back to me. The others have B&B, this one has Corsas. It's quiet inside with no drone but sounds like $&@! outside. My goodness...this car is crazy. It has fairly new Nitto 555s that are worthless until 4th gear. I've never been in a car like this. It's absolutely insane. I'll swap some 18" drag radials on FM5s in the next few days. This car has a bottom end like a big torque OHV engine. It pulls well up top too but not like the yellow car. If it could hook, it would likely get the jump on them all. Driveability is okay but bogs at low RPM coast down. No dyno but claimed 600 hp (crank) package when done.
LPE385 is a steady, early-build stroker. It went in to LPE in 1995 right off of the truck. It's not the fastest car but it is smooth--well tuned! Drives stock-like with more umph. Stock suspension transfers weight more than the others. This is a great car, hands down. LPE delivered dyno was 569 hp. I think I remember a 490 rwhp at an SGC gathering but imagine it was standard. Not the fastest but worthy of respect.
SGC350 is a wild card. The 4.30 gears are something else. Car was built for low end and timed accordingly. It drops off at 6,300 rpms substantially but runs crazy to there. I dyno'd it once on a spring day and it put down 466 rwhp actual (no correction)...434 rwhp SAE. It is an extremely fun car to drive. I'd imagine if it could hook that it would give them all a run for their money off of the line.

Interesting non scientific iPhone app sound recording at idle
B&B (110 db)
Corsa (94 db)
It all goes to hell with Corsa off idle.

Wow again!
What a collection!
PS: I just noticed your Las Vegas ZR-1
Gathering poster, 2015. I can't believe
it's been almost 8 years! I remember
it being HOT out, but the drive in Utah
was COOL!

Thanks Jim. I really like my 385. Lot of folks are saving the crank delay & cost and doing an offset-grind crank. Not sure how I'd go if starting from scratch. Can't wait to hear about your progress...once you do it, you'll wonder why it took so long.

I may have found the perfect C4 ZR-1 combination. The Red415 has been straightened out. Marc adjusted the tune and other small issues. The car literally drives like a 600hp stock ZR-1. I've always been a B&B fan, but their resonance inside the car with an x-pipe is significant. I've finally gotten old. This car's Corsa is quiet inside. The 4.10 gears, short shifter (BB), coilovers, and Brembos really complement its power and drivability. Pioneer nav, Bluetooth, and sound are exceptional. Stock cams and dual mass flywheel mask its inner beast. 96 deg ambient driving was normal! WOW! Haibeck does it again.

Awesome build Ted! That's one beautiful red Z! The way you matched the color on the plenum is striking!

Jim,
A little too much red...but I bought it that way. Used the money to redo it gray to make it run better.

Early morning drive. Clear skies and 60 deg. Black car has 435 rwhp with 4.30s. Yellow has ~550 rwhp with 4.10s. Quite exciting.

Beautiful. I have fm5's on my 96 ce lt4. Have a set of fikse aro's as well. I might rebuild the rears to fit my 92 zr-1

I found a very interesting thing yesterday that I did not think was true. My LPE 385 with intake cams is faster than my stock cam'd 415. I would have never thought that from driving them individually. My son and I drove them both. The 385 pulled or closed on the 415. Both have 4.10s. The 415 has 18" (vs17") wheels, but it was compelling.
Long live the king. Neither are slow.

Right or wrong, I left the car with stock valves and stock cams. The driving impressions of the LPE 385 (intake cam, stock valves, 4.10s, headers, dual mass), HAT 415 (stock cams & valves, 4.10s, headers, dual mass), and HAT 415 cam (LPE Stg 2 cams, big valves, 4.10s, single mass) are very different.
The HAT 415 has tremendous low end torque compared to the cammed cars. It feels fast and is a great around town driver. The tune is almost spot on. It drives like a 600hp stock ZR-1. The car has coilovers that ride very well and is lowered about an inch.
The LPE 385 does not have a great low end but comes on as revs increase. It has always felt a little slow around town as I don't use all 7k rpms. The tune is very good on this car and drives like a totally stock car. I never thought it would run down the above car. The 385 was done right off of the truck in 1995. It has stock suspension and really transfers weight better on acceleration than the coil over cars.
Then there is the devil. The cammed 415 is brutal. The tune has poor drivability but works at WOT. The engine had to have a rebuild...so upgraded heads with big valves. The car lost a lot of low end torque after. I think the compression ratio was lowered much to my chagrin. But, wind it out and it's a monster. The coilovers lower this one about 2". Weight transfer on acceleration is not as pronounced as the others.
I'm not sure which way I would go if I were to start over.
