Not sure if this is common knowledge, but the 93 flunked the fat farm test and reclassified the ZR-1 under EPA guidelines....in order to cut 3.8kgs and get back into their class, GM reduced tank size to 18.5 Gallons vs 20, changed fuel necks, losing a steel frame extension in excahnge of aluminum foam filler instead of honeycomb in the bumper.
Apparently there are 160 fatty 93 Zs with 20G tanks, and the rest skinnied up....

Now that's interesting. In my class I can update/backdate any C4 part so the steel frame extension and foam filler bits sound interesting. I run near empty anyway so I can't imagine enough weight savings in the empty tank being worth the effort but those bits might be useful - any pics in that article?
Thanks,
- Jeff
Still easier to make the car shed weight than doing it myself!

Lee,
Did the 18.5g tank continue on thru 95? Might explain why Bob G. wanted the tank from my 92 for his 94 but he was thinking his tank liner had shrunk.

I will have to agree, I have '93 #166 and it has a 18.5 gal tank. I wish I had the 20 sometimes.

Dom, I am not sure what happened after, does that make the 20 gallon 93 Zs big tank racers:sign10:

That's what I was thinking.
I'm under the impression that the tanks are the same size. Gm put a longer filler neck in the tank so it would fill at a lower volume. If that's the case, you could pull the neck & cut some from the bottom or just drill a couple of holes in the filler neck near the top so it would equalize.
