OK, here is some early stuff that I have had for years about the 89 ZR-1 from the C P C Engineering Dept
If anyone wants copies of these just email me at corvettechallengeregistry@comcast.net and I will send them out.

Good stuff Brett. thanks.
I like how they say the LT5 is available with coupe or convertible, but the wider wheels are only available with the ZR-1 option. So in 11/87 there where two options. ZR-1 and LT5.

I noticed that too, very interesting. So I guess, if this plan had gone through, you could have ordered a standard C4 (coupe or vert) with just the LT5. I wonder what the VIN number for those cars would have been?

That is some cool stuff Brett! It almost looks like GM was going to let the customer do some mixing & matching? Coupes & verts and ZR-1 or just an LT5. I just can't see the stock size tires living very long behind an LT5.;)
I love reading the "engine description"....it reads like a who's who of all the good ideas you should use when building a mouse motor. I just want to know what happened to the "larger radiator" we were supposed to have?:sign10:
Thanks for posting this stuff!

Well I am working on some data/research that shows up until the very last minute, less then a month before the 89 Pilots started rolling off the line the ZR-1s were going to share the 5100001 Vehicle sequence with the L98s. The zr1 would have only been identified by the 1G1YZ and the J for the engine digit. so 5100056 could have been a ZR-1 and 5100057 an L98. I suspect that when they collapsed the LT5 into a ZR-1 only powertrain that the VIN sequence number changed as well.
Until I have more data I can only tell you I think this happened.

The '90 Convertible that I had was a normal VIN number with a J where the engine code went.
