Popping noise from rear
I have been having this strange popping noise from driver side rear for about 6months. I had the car in the shop and had them try to locate where it was coming from with no success.
Then, yesterday, feeling a little guilty about being lax over keeping the car in tip top shape after seeing such well taken care cars at the Reston get together, I asked about how to get rid of brake dust grime off the inside of aluminum wheels. The gentleman with cleaning products recommended Auto Magic #66, acid base wheel cleaner. So, today I removed one wheel at a time, sparayed the suff (50-50). Holy moly!!! Stuff is scary! Worked like magic! This stuff is industrial strength. Furthermore, while cleaning out the rear suspension with the wheel removed, I finally found the culprit for the popping noise. It was a worn out rear leaf spring cushion. Only reason I could see this was because I had removed the wheel - visiable only from the top. Now my rims are spick and span (despite some 104,000 miles worth of wear and curb rash), calipers are clean and soon will be rid of the strange noise. |

Well done!
It was nice to meet you on Sunday. You certainly have a nice looking ZR-1!!! Especially considering it is a daily driver with > 100,000 miles. Jim

Re: Popping noise from rear
That popping noise could also be your half shaft u-joints on their way south.
Be sure to give them a good look over when you do the bearing hubs. |

Re: Popping noise from rear
Thanks for the tip.
It is most likely the bushing because noise coincides with up and down motion and not thrust. Nonetheless, I will look it over. Your 94 looks better then out the show room, probably faster too. Right? |
