Generally requires a new motor. The problem is worn gear teeth but rebuild kits are hard to find therefore the motor. Used working power seat assemblies are cheaper than a new motor. Those are the options basically.. Make sure the seat is not moving because of something caught under the seat. I.e. beer cans, etc. Seat comes out easily so you may want to remove it and examine before peeling out the greenbacks. May just be jammed. You might be lucky.

Seat mechanism transmission is shot, a common C4 issue. Ecklers and MA sell rebuilt units for about $250 exchange. There's a guy over on CF rebuilding just the transmission itself for about $100, Keenparts.com I believe.

As all have stated the teeth are worn and a replacement motor is the fix

Just FYI, it's really really easy to pull the seat cushion off and have a look just to be sure it's not something jammed up in there. Or at least the pre-Lear seats are, I assume yours are too. There's a catch at the front, push the cushion down and flip the catch, then basically swing the seat bottom forward as if it were the clamshell hood.

Phil,

Let me know if you need a helper in your troubleshooting. I will be glad to come down and give you a hand.

I had my seats out two weeks ago. No Problem.

A year ago, the 1996 car seat would not move back. I took the seat out to investigate and it worked fine. Cleaned the tracks and reinstalled and it has worked ever since.

Jim

Hey I dont know if your harness is the same for a 90-91 but I have plenty of these seat tracks at the house Ill hook you up for a good deal if you can use one of these since you lent me the rear end tools.

Jim and JP thanks for offering to help me out.
Got around to pulling the seat apart today and found the motors to be in good shape however, I did find the plastic assembly that holds the worm gear shafting in the seat transmission case to be all busted up. I guess after 15 years this rather flimsy plastic piece had seen enough (I'm confident the load of shifting my my deriair around over the past couple of years had little to do with it's demise). Anyway, I went ahead and followed Ccmano advise and contacted Keen Parts for a rebuilt unit with all new plastic internals. Thanks Ccmano for the lead.

Your welcome... They will sell you just the transmission and you just reassemble yourself. They're the only ones the do that. There are two different sized output shafts depending on the year, so be careful. What are they getting for a seat transmission these days?
