Default LT-5 Engine Weight

I am picking up my shortblock today. Anyone know the weight of an LT5 engine, I am going to get an engine stand, and noticed there are 750lb and 1000lb stands. I assume I need the larger of the two.

750 lb will work but it IS a heavy SOB. Maybe the bigger one will give piece of mind. I get nervous just turning a sbc on one, lot of weight hanging there.

Short block should still weigh between 300 and 350.

And once you start adding the heads, cams and other stuff, the weight goes up pretty quick.

This is the stand I use. NAPA NLE7915070

That's a good stand! I like the gear crank to rotate the engine. The LT5 is top heavy. Rotating a complete engine without the crank is a real ordeal. You can hold it back going pan up, but to rotate it back upright is a bitch! I did it once by hand, barely. With no help, I since use a cherry picker to rotate back upright.

The other issue..... NEVER own a 3 wheel engine stand, only the 4 wheel like above.

That is a sweet looking stand. And I also agree the 4 legs are the way to go.
