Default Megasquirt ECU

So I finally contacted DIYautotune about putting the ECU I purchased for my 1991 engine on my 1990. It never ran my 1991 well, while the factory ECU ran it fine.

To swap between 1991+ and 1990, I just had to open the ECU, remove a soldered in jumper, add a diode, and add 4 others jumpers (3 for the proper power key mode).

After the modifications, I threw it on, and it ran the car fine. Which means that there is something wrong with the 1991 sensors or wiring that the factory ECU compensated for in open loop mode that the megasquirt couldn't deal with.

I'm going to do some more investigation to see what actual issue caused the problem.

But it's also good to know that the ECU is swappable with minor modifications.

That sounds great. What is the cost of the megasquirt ECU?

I got mine while they were doing a run of them so it was cheaper. I think their "listed" price was 2500 and it was contingent upon them having connectors. Without looking, I think I paid 1800.

Correct. The OEM ECM is swappable between any years with the proper calibration chip.
