Default Secondaries not working

My friend just brought a 90 Z with 54k miles. There is no difference with the power key on or off. The car seems to run great uo until 5800 to 6000 and then it stopspulling and won't wind any further.
The vacuum pump runs and then shuts off like it should, and no check engine light.

My thoughts after doing a search is check the fuel pumps. How do you do this? Is it just pulling the pump 2 fuse?

I was also going to check the intake accordion hose.

What else should I check?

Thanks,
Shawn

Do a Secondary Functional Test with Key On by grounding the pink wire with black strip on ECM and observing Secondaries function between the Plenum Runners

How is your Oil Temp? If the oil temp is too low or the sensor is bad it will not open the secondaries.

He let it idle for 15 minutes and the oil temp gauge barely moved.
I am out of town, so I can't compare it to mine.
It would be nice if that is the problem.

Yeah, that may not be enough. These engine are super cold(oil) blooded. You might have to take it out for a ride to get it fully warmed up.

What Bill is saying is that with 9 quarts of oil in the engine (over two gallons of oil) it takes a while to heat that much oil up to operating temperature. While at the same time heating up the coolant.

Low oil flow at Idling (low engine rpm) is another factor and like Bill suggests....taking the ZR-1 for a ride at higher RPMs gets the oil flowing at much greater flow rates through the Heads where the oil prolly obtains more heat.

We took it for a drive but at that time I did not know to look at the oil temp. I am going to try to go over there tomorrow.
He used a scanner and there were 8 stored codes. Je took them down so now we will clear the codes and take it for a drive.

Something weird that happened is the car went dead in his garage. The negative cable was loose and when he went to tighten it, it fell off in his hand.
We will correct that also.

Thanks for all the help I hope to know more tomorrow.

Some here will try to convince you to remove the Secondaires I have removed secondaries on one 91' (Removed.....NOT wired open) and have restored the secondaries on a 95' and three 90's. Restoring the secondaries is relatively easy. And keeping the secondaires functional you maintain the most unique feature of the ZR-1 which is the FULL POWER Mode (Parts Left Out Change the Unique Features of the ZR-1)

You still have not confirmed the Secondary Functional Test. Maybe your FULL POWER Key is not functional as simple as that which can also be restored.

TOP END RESTORATIONS SUMMARY

Post 76 - 1991 (#1427) LT5 Rebuild (C5 Z06/Wilwood Brakes, SW Headers, Ron Davis Radiator)
Post 119 - 1990 (#3032) LT5 Top End Rebuild (Fluidyne Radiator)
Post 133 - 1990 (#0072) LT5 Top End Rebuild (Ron Davis Radiator)
Post 230 - 1995 (#0186) LT5 Specific Top End Rebuild (C5 Z06/Wilwood Brakes, Fluidyne Radiator)

Hi there is a oil temperature thermostat in the oil system if that was open the oil probably won't heat up very quickly on a different subject I am trying to fit base C6 calipers to my ZR-1 and the calipers are to far from the disc what caliper brackets do you use

Regarding Oil Temperature Thermostat.......Engine Lubrication System Functional Discussion

I used Wilwood Rotors so the adapter may be a bit different.
Regarding Wilwood Rotors Adapter....ZR-1 (90' and 91') Wilwood Rotors and C4 to C5-Z06 Conversion
