An interesting evening----so far.
About 5 hours ago I was out talking with a new employee who is coming on board in a couple of days. When the civil defense (fire department) called me to say they had a report that my fire alarm system had gone off and they wanted me to go check the place.
Made a mach I trip to the shop and sure enough the nearer I got to my garage the more it looked like it was in flames. Thankfully when I got there it was the place that butts up against mine to the rear and the place next to that place. The fire department had cut the locks off my place and forced the rear door off its hinges. They were inside my place spraying water on the back wall to keep the fire from spreading to my place. Spent the next three hours there moving as much as possible out including my ZR1 and the Auburn. After three hours the fire department told me to go home and get some rest then come back at midnight which is in half and hour. I liked to have never convinced the fire department to let me go into my office to get Fuzzy (my garage cat who is blind) but finally they let me but one of them had to come with me and of course it would spook her and she wouldn't come out. After a few tries one of the firemen finally agreed to let me go back in by myself and he would stay at the garage doors. If I wasn't out in 15 minutes he would come in and get me as the smoke was really thick so everyone was wearing a respirator except me and of course that they wouldn't allow. Took me the better part of the 15 minutes to get Fuzzy to come out of hiding and let me put her in her carrying case. So now I am at home and in the next half hour will go back to the garage to see what is going on there. Would really like to be able to close it up, come home and get some sorely needed sleep. But that is very unlikely. However it is better to look on the bright side. The ZR1, Auburn and Fuzzy are all safe and sound. The rest of the stuff in the garage should be OK but the items at the rear of the place will have water damage. Will post up some pictures if possible. Definitely could have been worse. Glad the Z is ok (and the cat).

Re: An interesting evening----so far.
Just returned home from the shop. Took some photos with my phone but I am a notoriously lousy photographer. Managed to secure the garage and lock everything up. Brought the Z home but had to leave the Auburn there. Will check on everything in the morning and take some better photographs if there is any interest.

Wow, could have been a really sad situation otherwise. Good job.

Wayne, I am very glad that you, Fuzzy and the Z are okay, and that there is apparently no killer damage to your shop. Man that sure did make for an "interesting evening" !

Re: An interesting evening----so far.
Just returning home from the last 10 hours in the shop. Things look very different in the light of day.
Rear wall of my shop badly burned. Accommodation all electrics burned and water damage to the staff "break" area. TV, computer, Internet connection, refrigerator etc., all destroyed. Had an electrician in all day and will take another couple of days to re-wire the rear of the shop. Only one car was damaged and that was by a fire personnel not knowing how to shut the hood so he broke the support. Not a problem have spare parts. Z car now at home with me and the Auburn back in storage. Everything else will just need a good cleaning and correcting water damage. Got real lucky this time. The three shops behind mine were all gutted. Complete losses. |

Re: An interesting evening----so far.
Am trying to figure out how to upload some snaps taken but not having much luck. My phone seems to be on the fritz when trying to send photo files. Will get some sleep and try again. I function worse than my phone when my sleep gauge is low.
