Default Changing All Fluids....Recos, Please...!!

Since my ZR-1 is celebrating its 20th Birthday, I am going to change all the fluids in my '91 #318 (with 38K miles)....then enjoy the rest of the Summer in the Z. Any recommendations for the following would be appreciated:

1. Engine Oil -- Mobil One (I've heard about 9 quarts, letting the oil drain for a good, long time...any other info..??).

2. Transmission Fluid.

3. Coolant.

4. Brake Fluid (not very hard on the brakes....no track-use).

5. Rear Axle.

Any other tips, recommendations, cautions....all are appreciated.

fwiw here is what I've been using.

mobil1 10w-30 I'm going back to it from AMO 10w-40 ( full synthetic )

Bosch 3401 or Fram HD off-road oil filters

Trans: Castrol from the BMW dealer TWS 10w-60 M series motor oil, annually.

GM gear oil plus 2 bottles of GM posi-additive in the past, just tried AMO HD synthetic plus one bottle of their additive, seems to be just fine either way. Every two yrs. on the AMO, every yr on the GM stuff.

I was using DOT3 from Valvoline for the brakes & their P/S fluid ( synthetic ), every two yrs flush.

Coolant: I have only used GM coolant, 1825-M spec, P/N 12378560 I got it from partszoneonline.com....every two yrs w/a GM t-stat flush & refill.

Tom

On that GM P/N for the coolant, DO NOT go to a GM dealer to buy it. They changed the contents that used to go with that P/N. It is 1825-M spec now, but it is a H-OAT coolant now as GM is no longer having silicated coolants made for them. Sorry about my mistake.

The clutch could probably use a flush, if it hasn't been refreshed lately. I've been using ATE amber with no problems, in the clutch and brakes.

I'm using non-competition style Wagner brake pads on my C5 conversion front brakes using $6 parts store DOT-3 brake fluid and its just fine for daily driving. The main thing being that it is fresh and clean and well bled.

I found the old-style Autozone "conventional" coolant (inexpensive store branded coolant) to be recommended as well as a vintage jug of Prestone I had for some years waiting for an old car to come along.

Trans oil: I have tried both the 10w-60 BMW Castrol and Amsoil 5w-30 synchomesh with good results. The BMW oil is easier to find.

I've had power steering fluid issues (autocross is power steering hell) so I've gone to Redline Synthetic PS fluid with good results.

The Ford HD DOT3 brake fluid is cheap and good. What can I say I'm an old Ford guy so I have to use a Ford PN somewhere!

Cheers,
- Jeff
