Default clutch master question

I have just had new Wagner cylinders from Rock Auto fitted. The mechanic says that the pedal travel with the new master is less than it was, so the clutch start switch no longer gets set when the clutch is floored. So he has wired the switch to be "on" at all times. Anyone got any comments? Had a similar experience?

As for bypassing the switch - it is done all the time to eliminate just one more aging connection that sooner or later will cause a "no start" situation. Just try to remember not to turn the starter before engaging the clutch! I don't know, but it might be possible to reposition the switch so it will be engaged according to the new travel characteristic.

As long as you can hold the clutch peddle down while the engine is at idle, and be able to smoothly shift gears from 1, 2...6, R without feeling like you have to force it in any gear...then I would guess the replacement master cylinder is going to work. But, if there is hesitation going into any one or more gears, then either the capacity of the new master is inadequate, or possibly the slave needs to be replaced as well. In any case, you don't want to be forcing it into gear(s) due to the clutch not fully disengaging, or the synchros are going to be ruined, and the ZFs are not cheap to buy parts for!

Hi,

I just bought a RockAuto Wager MC and SC. So I am really interested as my Tech and I will be doing the R and R on the clutch hydrl very soon.

SO,



Could you elaborate just a bit more on just how the clutch pedal works with the new Wagner MC.. Does it disengage the clutch OK ? Is the end of pedal travel up from the floor and if so about how many inches?
? When you push the pedal to the end of its travel does it feel like it hits a stop or is the end of travel springy or mushy ?

Hi Don, I replied to your email but it got refused - maybe comcast confuses Spain with Spam or something! Anyway, here's my info. My mechanic said that the new slave is a very tight fit, as it is bigger than the old one. As far as the feel of things when I press the pedal, it maybe seems lighter, but otherwise I do not notice any difference. But there again, I`ve got a new clutch as well, so that will change the feel of things a bit. Best of luck with your new cylinders, friendliest regards, Dick

Thanks you for your reply. Did you say you lived in Spain ? What an experience driving the ZR1 on those roads. You are a lucky guy.

Anyway, Thanks for the heads up on the slave cyl. We will watch for any issues on that end. My other question was the concerns on the way the Master cyl pedal acted. I am wondering why the pedal travel was effected so that your mechanic had to bypass the clutch interlock. Does your mechanic know why the pedal did not go clear to the floor ?
