I Need Gatorback Takeoffs (tires)
Does anyone have a set of front and rear Gatorbacks that they have saved after replacing them? I need a set for the restoration of my 88.
Thanks Brett

Re: I Need Gatorback Takeoffs (tires)
I'm not really sure what a gator back is? However, I still have the original rubber that came on my 90. I would donate them to your effort if you feel they would be of any use. I can go get the date codes....if that is useful. My car is a May 90 car, #2233.
You can have them for what ever the shipping costs would be. Tom

Are the gatorbacks the "F1s" or some other designation?

Brett, sorry for the delay. I was busy at my job and well just failed to get back here. I sent a PM and I hope you are not too cross with me. It was not intentional.
Tom

Re: I Need Gatorback Takeoffs (tires)
Just FYI, "Gatorback" was a nickname given to the Goodyear tires that came on Corvettes, Ferrari's, Lotus' and a few other sports cars in the 80's and early 90's. They didn't have a model name, on a ZR-1 the tire will say "Goodyear ZR40" on the front, and "Goodyear ZR35" on the rears.
Since this was such a crappy model name, the "Gatorback" name stuck. The nickname seems to have come from the tread pattern's similarity to the pattern on an alligator's back.

Tom, there was no delay as far as I was concerned. You're an amazing ZR1 brother. When the writeup for this car is done, you will be given credit for the donation to the restoration of the 88. Brian Russell, another Corvette brother, made a huge contribution to the restoration of this car as well. His blue/blue 87 will be used for the interior and engine compartment trim pieces that are missing or damaged beyond what can be used from the original pieces. What a great hobby!!!!!!! Can't wait to have this car at the next Gathering in BG.
