Default Custom Prom

I have a stock 1994 ZR1 but am considering mild modifications like Corsa exhaust, breathless Intake, 4:10 gears etc. My question is does a custom PROM chip make an appreciable difference on a stock car. If so, any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

I got my prom put in after I had some mods done, such as headers, B&B with x-pipe and P&P job on the top end. So I can't really answer your question regarding stock form but from what I was told, I don't think it would be a noticable difference in power but would help in areas such as cooling , (fans turn on sooner) also can eliminate your 1 to 4 shift light and thing along this line.

Oh, by the way I have a Doug Rippie chip. It was put in at the Vette Doctors when I had a little work done on the car. It was also burned to eliminate a code that kept being thrown. The chip also keeps the car on full power all the time, no need to turn the key

Thanks for your opinion. What you said is largely the info I get from all sources in regards to a custom PROM on a stock engine. I think I'll wait on a custom prom until I finish all other upgrades.

I am looking at getting a custom PROM not so much for performance, but I would like the fans to come on much sooner. In stop and go traffic it just runs way to hot. Is this custom PROM something that I can install myself?

Check out Haibeck's site for his custom PROM calibrations:

I believe they are really easy to install, just flip over the ECM and unscrew the little access panel on the bottom. Then pop out the old prom and put in the new one.

Two 10mm nuts that hold the PCM in place, flip it over. Then four 1/4" bolts that hold the cover on and then it pops in and out like PC memory.

One thing to keep in mind with Haibeck's chip is that if you have headers, he will want to return the fuel mixture back to it's rich setting like your current stock chip. To do that, he will charge an extra $100 to take it back to 6% rather than the 3% he has his chips set for off of the self.
Mark has a great reputation, but his chips do not have any adjustments included in the purchase price like some of the other ZR-1 tuners. So when you order one from him, make sure you have your mods set by the time you order it, or you will be sending it back to him and it will cost you some extra $.
