Piston Skirt Diameter and Bore Clearance
I'm in the middle of overhauling my 160,000 mile '91 #1773. The engine is surprising clean inside with no damage, just stretched chains, worn chain guides, bearing worn (to the copper on 1/2) but not scratches, and a third of the lifters pitted. Only three of the liners have just barely fingernail catching scratches. All liners are +0.004" - +0.007" over stock 3.897" I'm looking to replace them. As for pistons, all are good so far but I haven't mic'd piston skirts or the pins/pins bores.
What I'm looking for is the piston skirt specs. I've searched the previous forums for days (thanks for the step-by-step on rebuild) but I can't find that dimension. Does anyone have the piston diameter at the skirt specification. Keeping the bottom stock to pass CA smog. GVD has the heads, IH, and IP for porting. Re: Piston Skirt Diameter and Bore Clearance
A chat with any of the experienced tuners (for example, Marc Haibeck) would probably provide a wealth of information relating to a rebuild. I know Marc, and I am sure several of the others, would be glad to talk with you. Marc's website is www.zr1specialist.com--Bob
