I thank all the good people that gave me info on this engine as I was putting it together. You all will be mentioned When I write this article on the LT5 thanks everyone enjoy the pics

Here is the left side the red dykem is so I know where the bottom of the piston is just a helping hand

This is the right side notice the head studs Top of the line ARP 2000

The head after new valves and surfaced

so Here is another 6

Close up view of the tentioner snap ring that has to be compressed to assemble it

Another view of the snap ring

Using electrical tape to compress the snap ring so I can assemble the tentioner

The bottom of the assembled engine from the front showing the ARP main bolts on 1 3 5 mains magic marker is so I know the torquing sequence and the amount to torque it to

Side view of the bottom end look at those nice aftermarket rods again the red is so I can read what rod is where

Close up of the tool I made to time the crank to the cams

Great pics! Always good to see this powerplant being used outside of GM factory specs as you will surely find better ways to hook up and use more efficient ways to cool, feed and breathe this engine. as parts become harder to find the ingenuity used here will help all of us!
Good luck with your venture and please keep us up to date with your discoveries as you get it to work.

Wow that sure is LT5 porn! Thanks for sharing with all of us!

Sure wish I could have been a fly on the wall to watch the assembly.

I hope you have a ton of fun when you're finished!

I put the engine together and apart several times just don't want to do it again. First time with this motor. Checked and checked oil clearances mains and rods, filed rings for hours questioned myself many times and called people to make sure doing things right or what seemed to be right. Got main bearing clearances at 1.9 to 2.1 thousands a little loose by the book standards but by every engine I have built those are perfect. Juggeled rods around till got them all at 2.1 but rear set at 2.3 and 2.4 thousands guess they are the furthest away from the oil pump and crank had worn a little bit. But I think I am going to use 10-40w or 15-40w oil. Still have to build the remote oil filter set up and drop that ugly GM upside down oil filter assembly. also going with coil on plug ignition system WOW 1999 to 2004 LINCOLN CONTINENTAL DOHC ford coils fit like they were made for this engine DC512 is the part number.

Have you devised a plan for the PCV / breather system? Are you plugging the plenum coolant from inj. housings and what are you planning for ECM and fuel pump adaption? These are all areas where improvements are welcome. Good Luck

Not sure about PVC system thinking leave it alone and add another check valve and a "t" so under boost it vents to the air. Crankcase pressure is a BIG problem with a boosted engine. I am not pugging the water from the inj housing just cut them off at the housings and welded AN-16 fittings on them for the water lines to the radator. I will post a picture of my in tank fuel system. It is made by FORE presision fabrication it has 3 walbro 255lph in tank fuel pumps teed together and then using a weldon fuel pump regulator referanced to boost pressure. Injectors are ford motorsports 42lbs per hour injectors and the whole system will be managed buy F.A.S.T. XFI coil on plug ingniton system and F.A.S.T. Xfi ECU and a F.A.S.T. TCI transmission control unit for the 6 speed auto. With twin touch screen dashesto display all the info and to tune and do data acuasision . So talk about a wiring nightmare.

Mike,
It looks really great!! I especially like the personalized touch.... "Sherbring Racing". How did you go about filling the OEM lettering & emblem recesses?

BTW, I found a new balancer that had about 1/4" machined from the engine side of the hub.. Might be just right for that trigger wheel we were talking about.
