New Tires and Alignment
I had the wet auto cross alignment taken out and had the stock alignment settings installed 2 weeks ago.
Today I had the Costco special order Michelin all season tires installed. (Stock sizes) WOW Smooth as glass. No wandering. No vibrations. Happy car and owner. 89210 miles-triple digit tested. |

Re: New Tires and Alignment
Great, I have been on the fence between the Michelin PS4 all season or the PS2 summer tires that I have now. Will also get them from Costco. Glad you like the PS4, I am leaning towards them.

Re: New Tires and Alignment
Charlie, I am big fan of the Michelin Pilot Sport all seasons. When the OEM Pilot Sport run flats on my 2016 Z06 wore out at 20k miles, I replaced them with A/S PS3 + ZPs (the predecessor to the PS4s). They have been great. I have even tracked them on touring laps and they felt fine. They extended my driving season considerably and I am never afraid of rain as I was with the regular ones. I have the Michelin all season run flats on my wife's BMW and will put them on mine when the OEM Goodyears need replacement. Back in 2016 I put Michelins on the '95 ZR-1 (replacing the crappy unbalanceable Sumis) and they were great then but were not all seasons. I also got mine at Costco at a fair price and with a good warranty. I didn't know that Michelin made the newer all seasons for the 17 inch wheels but if they do that is great. --Bob

Re: New Tires and Alignment
Thanks Bob. The new all season Michelin Pilot Sport 4's are available in our stock 17" sizes. The Michelin Pilot Sport 2 summer tires are available in our stock 17" size for the fronts but for the rears the size is 335-35-17 which fits great, just a tad taller so your mph is off by about 3mph going 70.

Re: New Tires and Alignment
Will spend more time at and around that speed.
I put about 70 miles on that day. Will post after more testing. I do remember inside rear view mirror very stable at 75 mph. This is an old road, yet still mostly smooth with few pot holes or big noisy expansion strips. |

Re: New Tires and Alignment
Really nice fall day here in Virginia.
So in the interest of Science; I repeated the 50 mile drive out to the west and back. Hovered around 70 mph while doing slight acceleration and deceleration. Results and observations are the same. Happy car and owner. 91Z #1838 |

Re: New Tires and Alignment
When I bought my '95 it initially (2012) it had Sumitomos on it. I could never get rid of wheel imbalance vibrations around 70 or so. When in Bowling Green in 2015 I visited Jim Van Dorn at his shop and he kindly balanced the wheels, but on pretty rudimentary equipment. Still didn't improve much. So I took the car to a local tire dealer there who had the latest Hunter equipment and a really experienced technician. He found that he had to rotate all four tires about 180 degrees on the rims, use a lot of weights, and one tire he simply couldn't balance. Said the tire was out of spec from the manufacturer and could not be balanced. With his work he did get rid of about 95% of the vibration and when I got home I replaced the Sumis with Michelins from Costco. No balance problems after that. --Bob
